Sooraj Bharjatiya is planning a sequel to his 1994 hit, Hum Aapke Hai Kaun (HAHK). The sequel will star the original Nisha and Prem - Madhuri Dixit and Salman Khan - but Bharjatiya favourites – Shahid Kapoor and Amrita Rao – are also said to join the star cast.
HAHK is one of the biggest grossers ever in the history of Bollywood. Made on a budget of around six crores, the film went on to collect over ten times that amount in India alone. Not only did the film have immense success, it was also one of the biggest blockbusters of Indian cinemas, despite its length of close to four hours. Salman Khan and Madhuri Dixit played lovers in the film but when Salman's elder brother played by Mohnish Behl's wife – Madhuri's sister – dies, family pressures make Madhuri head up the altar with Mohnish. However in true Bollywood style, Mohnish discovers the true story between Salman and Madhuri and naturally stops the wedding!
However what might pose to be a problem in the set up is Salman's not so pleasant relationship with Shahid Kapoor.
"Salman and Shahid had a falling out a couple of years back when they were performing live at different venues. This was the same tour where John and Salman fell apart as well. But with Shahid being the Barjatiya's blue eyed boy and Vivah doing so well for the banner… Sooraj won't even think about not making film without Shahid," says the source.
With Sooraj only drafting the first script of the HAHK sequel one can only hope that by the time the film does get on the floors the director can ensure a truce between the man who propelled them to the top a decade back and the current favourite who can lock their fate for the next one!
