Hi friends,
'We want to end it…in marriage'
Saif Ali Khan bares his heart about tying the knot with Kareena Kapoor, his relationship with Babita and feeling more responsible now to Shubha Shetty-Saha
Saif Ali Khan is riding a crest. For starters, he has won two races—the race to win Kareena Kapoor's heart and another the success of his last film Race.
You rejected a 30 crore contract with a corporate house, in times when everyone is boasting about clinching mega deals?
Money is not everything. There has to be much more than that to entice me. Yes, a lot of them are talking about their contracts and prices …but that's alright. I do understand that hype is required.
But one needs to be clear about what kind of hype one needs. Actually, my production company Infiniti is doing a lot of things but in a quiet way. Like, it is tying up with Eros International.
I'm happy on that account because even whilst doing production, I can give a lot of creative inputs. It's an entirely different feeling when you are working for your own production. You feel more responsible for your failures and successes. I'm absolutely loving it.
Your love life with Kareena Kapoor has become national news now. Does it get embarrassing at times?
Not really. I've always believed that it's best to be honest about your love and life. That way you give it the respect that it deserves. To some extent our life becomes fodder for gossip, but we realise that it's bound to be.
Sometimes, it does go a wee bit out of hand—like this rumour about Kareena's mum (Babita Kapoor) not liking me. That's not true at all. I've met Babita aunty a few times. She is a lovely lady. In the last four months, we've dined together a few times. We get along fine. We like each other. There is no issue at all. There is no need for me to clarify this. But certain things are important to me and this is one of them.
It is also said that you are keen on marriage, but Kareena is not.
Not true. We are serious about each other. We want to give it an honourable culmination at some point of time. We are on this beautiful journey and we would definitely like it to end in marriage. We are not casually dating each other. But this is not the right time as we are both too involved with our careers.
Do you still believe in the institution of marriage?
Very much so.
How did it feel to watch your son Ibrahim act (he is doing a cameo in Tashan)?
(Laughs) Oh, he is very keen on being in front of the camera. He loves acting. When he was shooting, I was behaving like a typical star mother, fussing over him. I was truly impressed by his performance.
Is it true that you still seek Amrita's (Singh) advice for a lot of things?
Yes, I do. It's too personal. I wouldn't like to talk about it.
