Sonu Nigam comes back with 'Classically

This time with an album titled Classically Mild by Saregama. Sonu, who's known for his vibrant singing, tries his hand at something new and succeeds immensely. But, what prompted him to work on an album that's based on classical music, considering the fact that remix songs are the order of the day? "If singers like me don't do something for classical music then who will? We want people to carry on with our music, but if we don't support it, then how can we expect anyone to do it for us," he questions.

Speaking about the album, Sonu says, "The music and lyrics of this album are soulful and I am sure that anyone who hears it, will love it." But isn't it difficult to get youngsters to listen to classical music? "Like the name suggests, this album is based on classical music but only mildly. We are not going to bore people. Nowadays, music makers tend to pass off anything by claiming 'that's what the audience wants'. But that's only because you give the audience a choice between bad and worse. Give them something nice and they'll appreciate it. That's my firm belief," states Sonu.

By cutting down on his playback assignment, Sonu seems to be ready to give his non-filmi assignments more time. Atul Churamani, VP Saregama India, says, "Saregama HMV has India's best catalogue of music in the film and non-film genres. Today, it is at the forefront in developing the market for non-film music. We are proud to work with Sonu. We are working with him to create some wonderful pieces of music. The first of which is the music of Classically Mild. Our initial feedback to the music has been fantastic. We are also working with him on other pieces of music like the one with the Birmingham Symphony Orchestra. With Sonu, non-film music will have widespread appeal."
