The buzz in Bollywood is that, after almost two years of togetherness, Salman Khan and Katrina Kaif have parted ways.
Trouble set in from Salman's birthday bash at his farmhouse in Panvel, this January. Salman had pushed Katrina aside when she tried to stop him from drinking too much. Then, Salman's excessively possessive behaviour just made things worse.
So typical of Salman, if we go back to his affairs with Somy Ali (who is still single and settled in the US), Sangeeta Bijlani (who is married to India's ex-cricket captain Mohammed Azharuddin) and Aishwarya Rai (who married Abhishek Bachchan last year).
Firstly, he was not too happy with Katrina's chemistry with Akshay Kumar which was visible in Namastey London. Right now, Katrina is doing another film with Akshay — Vipul Shah's Singh is Kinng. They also start together in Hum Ko Deewana Kar Gaye and will also be seen in Welcome. Secondly, Salman was furious when Katrina signed Rajkumar Santoshi's film with Shahid Kapoor.
Things seemed to have reached a nadir in the Sallu-Kat relationship lately when Salman called up Firoz Nadiadwala and demanded that he should change the promos of his upcoming film, Welcome. Katrina, who is currently shooting in Australia for Singh is Kinng, did not take this kindly.
Katrina found herself in a very awkward situation, thanks to Sallu's possessiveness. Our source says, "After seeing the promos of Welcome, Salman called up Nadiadwala and demanded that some changes be made. When Nadiadwala wanted to know what Salman exactly wanted, Salman categorically told him that he was unhappy that Katrina's skirts were really short, and that he didn't want him to publicise the film that way."
Nadiadwala immediately called up Katrina to tell her about Salman's phone call. Katrina told Nadiadwala that he need not make any changes as she was quite comfortable with whatever she had worn in his film. "Katrina has now become very independent.
She is takes her own decisions and does not seek 'permission' from Salman before signing films. Earlier, filmmakers signed up Katrina because she was Salman's girlfriend. But today, filmmakers don't approach her because of the same. She has worked very hard to get here. She can't just let it go so easily," the source futher says.
Our source adds, "Salman Khan's protective and possessive nature has become embarrassing and claustrophobic for Kat. They've quarreled a lot because of this. A large section of the industry is aware that Sallu and Katrina have a problem. The other day, Salman told Rajkumar Santoshi in no uncertain terms that Shahid Kapoor should be dropped from his film since he didn't want Katrina to be paired with Shahid, whom he detests. He has been extremely moody these days."
When contacted yesterday in Australia, Katrina chose to deny that Sallu had called up Nadiadwala, but added emphatically, "Salman is not the director of the film."
We had called up Katrina, even on Monday. Then she had told us, "I am rushing for some shopping. I can't talk to you now."
We then asked if she is single now, but she did not confirm the news. "I have not spoken about my personal life before this. I will not make an exception now," she quipped.
We then called up Nadiadwala for his version. Nadiadwala laughed and asked us how we learnt about Sallu's phone call to him. All he said was, "The promos of Welcome have not been altered. We are independent producers who do not give in to pressure. Please don't write this story else it may harm my good relations with Salman and Katrina."
We sent a message to Salman asking him to tell us if he had split with Katrina, but he did not reply.
