Esha Deol thanks Amrita for misbehaving!

Are you disappointed that your last release Shaadi No 1, didn't work at the box-office?
No. It would have been better for my producer Vashu Bhagnani and director David Dhawan if the film had worked, but I guess people got bored with the same kind of subject.

After your spat with Amrita Rao at Bangkok, do you feel awkward to act with her in Pyare Mohan?
I think if you are not overly friendly with your co-actor, then you put in extra effort to make your on-screen chemistry look convincing. believe me, you won't be able to make out from our performance that we don't get along.

In fact, I must thank Amrita for helping me improve my acting skill. If she hadn't misbehaved with me that day, I would have never been able to act the way I have acted in Pyare Mohan with her.

Are you on talking terms with her?
No. We are working together in a professional capacity and we only interact when we need to execute a particular scene together in the film.

Does this animosity create any problem in the production of the film?
I don't think so. We are both professionals, and co-operative. Whatever happened between us was personal and we don't drag personal relationships to work.

But it was very unlike you to make a statement like, "Yes I slapped Amrita Rao" in print, considering you hail from a conservative family.
I think what I did was absolutely right. After all, I am Dharmendra's daughter. I don't get bullied by anyone. I did give Amrita a warning when she began using abusive language at the hotel lobby.

But she ignored my warning. Finally, when I couldn't take it any longer, I slapped her hard. My director, Indra Kumar, who was present, told me that I was right to do what I did, if he had been in my place, he would have done the same. I didn't want to make an issue of the incident, but I started getting calls from the media soon after. My parents asked me to speak the truth.

After the Pune discotheque incident, where you felled an unwanted admirer, and the Amrita Rao fiasco, you seem to be becoming famous for 'action' scenes...
(Laughs) After all, I am a Jat Punjabi kuddi. People expect me to behave like my mom, but I have my dad's genes too in my blood. Check out my biceps... do I look the kind who'll get bullied by anyone?

All these heroines are just too smart for me. They really treat me badly. I've been a fool for too long, believing what they say to my face. Kab tak mein ullu banti rahoon? Abhi mauka milte hi kaan ke niche baja deti hoon... (How long can I be fooled? Now, whenever I get the chance, I'm going to give it back to people) I think my dad likes it that way, although I'm not so sure about my mom.

In an interview to Karan Johar your mom clearly stated that she wants a son-in-law like Abhishek Bachchan. Comment.
(Laughs uproariously) My mom is really sweet. She mentioned Abhishek's name because he is the most eligible bachelor around. She wants me to settle down with a nice man and she feels that Abhishek is the best one around right now. But I don't see myself marrying Abhishek because I consider him my elder brother! Sorry mom!

They say you've played the role of Sushmita Sen in Vikram Bhatt's biographical film, Ankahee?
How can I play Sushmita? You must be kidding. I don't think that anyone other than Sushmita can play her role, she is one of the most attractive woman I have met in my life. I did the role in my own way. Besides, she has said in an interview that the story is not based on her life.

People are speculating that after Ankahee you and Aftab Shivdasani will be working together once again and the chemistry will work?
Chemistry? What Chemistry? Although you may not be able to make out on seeing the film, but we hardly spoke to each other on the sets. Aftab is a good actor and we have no problems about working together. Incidentally no one had approached us earlier, assuming that we won't want to work together.

Didn't your mom object to your dating him?
Oh my god! Now after chemistry, we're rewinding to history! I don't live in my past and I don't want to talk about it either.

Do you know that Aftab is dating Yana Gupta?
Really? Hey, that's cool. I am happy for Aftab. Yana is a beautiful girl. Lagta hai sab ki gaadi nikal padi hai, sirf meri gaadi bandh padi hai... kab aayega mera rajkumar? (Looks like everyone else is hitched, only I'm left behind. When will my Prince Charming arrive?)

When will Hema Malini start her film with you and Rekha?
She is still finalising the story, so it's too early to talk about it. Actually my mom will be making two films, one will star Rekhaji, the other will star my mom and me.

So finally we are going to see Hema Malini and Esha as mother and daughter on screen?
Sorry to disappoint you. I am not a hundred per cent sure yet, but we might be playing sisters on screen. My mom looks really young and with the kind of stressful life I am leading, I look really old. So I think we won't look bad as siblings.

People say you look masculine...
I have tried to look like my mom, but in vain. She is too pretty, and even after so many years people haven't stopped comparing me with her looks. So now I have decided to look like my dad. I have a worked-out body. I feel proud when people compliment me for my muscular thighs and arms. I tell them that I've inherited them from my dad! I think dad feels happy that I have a fit body. Frankly speaking, I don't want to look petite and feminine. I guess we need hatti katti heroines in our industry too.

Your friend Vivek Oberoi has split with Aishwarya Rai. Do you think that couples from the same profession can't have a happy relationship?
I'd be the last person to say that. My parents were superstars and they have been happily married for so many years. I can't comment on Ash and Vivek, but I strongly feel that if there's physical distance in a relationship, it doesn't last very long. If both partners are too busy to have time for each other, then the relationship doesn't make sense.

In the Juhu festival you were spotted in the audience watching your sister Ahana's performance. How was the experience?
It was scary. I was so nervous to see her on stage, all my thoughts were focussed on praying that she wouldn't make any mistake. Now I understand why my mother is always tense when we perform. Although most of the time I fight with Ahana, I also confide in her. She is my biggest critique. She tells me, poker-faced, that I looked bad on screen or that the film is not going to work. Incidentally, she is always right.
