Om Shanti Om rocks

Farah and SRK together have worked their magic once more. SRK has again given his best and proved that he is still the superstar. He had earlier said that he knew the pulse of the people and how to deliver.
ONLY SHAHRUKH could make a movie like Om Shanti Om (OSO) work and boy how he does it.... in true Khan style. Any lesser mortal would have made a hash of this script but SRK and Farah Khan in their totally bindaas style make this movie a wonderfully funny and warm one, high on nostalgia for the 70's.
What works for this movie? Well almost everything. Deepika is fresh and does a reasonably good job of her first movie role. The music works and so do the outrageously vibrant costumes and dances. The supporting cast is brilliant and the cameos are fun. I liked all the loving spoofs on the stars of yesteryears but the one I loved the most was the take on apna Bharat Kumar aka Manoj Kumar.
Even the 10 plus audience, who in most cases would not have seen the old movies and stars, seem to have reacted to SRK 's efforts and laughed their hearts out.
I saw it in the Gulf where it was released yesterday and everyone from the Indians to the Pakistanis and the various Arab nationals in the theater, seemed to laugh spontaneously at all the maverick jokes and spoofs.
I would recommend this movie whole heartedly to everyone who has a funny bone. Don't look for a serious, meaningful movie when SRK teams up with Farah. This one is designed for bellyfuls of laughter and on that count it delivers. It's the festive season and SRK has given us a wonderfully light and frothy gift. Long live the King.
My only grouse is with editing. It could have been a bit tighter but I guess when one is very close to the making of the movie you do tend to get a bit attached to it and lose perspective that an outside editor could bring. In this case Farah's husband has done the editing and his love for all the scenes shows. But it is not a serious drawback and does not take away from the joy that this movie brings.
Go and grab your tickets then. I can't tell you the story now, can I? Do the viewing for yourself and have fun.
Oh, and I almost forgot SRK's fab abs. Ladies go drool unashamedly and guys eat your hearts out. What this man has achieved with his body at age 42 is nothing short of magical.
