The long hair that seems to have generated much curiosity is for a film I am presently shooting for. In Ram Gopal Varma's movie, I had to wear my hair really short. Then when I started growing my hair for Jhoom Baraabar Jhoom, it got unruly. That is when I tried to tame it with hair bands. The hair bands were by no means a fashion statement. They were simply meant to keep hair out of my eyes.
YOU SEEM TO BE DOING A LOT OF PREPARATION FOR YOUR CURRENT ROLE.
Physical preparation is an essential part of playing a character. Everyone is doing it these days. You have to look your character. For Guru, I had put on a lot of weight. No big deal if I'm doing it.
YOUR LOOK AND BODY LANGUAGE CHANGED COMPLETELY WITH BLUFF MASTER.
DRONA, WE HEAR, IS A SUPER-HERO FILM.
Who told you that? No, it isn't a superhero film or even a futuristic one. But yes, it does have a lot of special effects. I've never done a film that's so FX-heavy.
YOU HAD TO TAKE A BREAK FROM
SHOOT TO ACCOMMODATE MARRIAGE AND HONEYMOON.
The break was scheduled before hand. The nature of the film was such that it had to be done in different seasons, time zones and countries. I don't know why people presumed I had taken a break from work to get married. It was all in the scheme of things.
IS SARKAR 2 AHEAD OF THE ORIGINAL IN ITS SCOPE?
Being a sequel, it has to maintain continuity. Aishwarya wasn't there in the first one. Though she doesn't play my wife in the movie, I am really excited about her presence in the film. She's always been great fun to work with and very professional too.
WAS IT LIKE A FAMILY OUTING?
On the sets, we're professional. It was only after pack-up that we were a family again.
ARE YOU NOW MORE COMFORTABLE WITH HER THAN WITH OTHER CO-STARS?
Aishwarya's always been one of the costars I was most comfortable with. We're doing a couple of more films together, including one of Suniel Shetty's.
WHY DID YOU AGREE TO SUCH A MINUSCULE ROLE IN LAGA CHUNRI MEIN DAAG?
Aditya Chopra asked me to, and he's a dear friend.
YOU ACTED IN RAM GOPAL VARMA'S SEVERELY PANNED AAG.
Everyone is entitled to an opinion. And they've the right to express it. I'm no one to comment on the film, but I felt it was a very unique take on the original Sholay.
HOW DOES THE FUTURE LOOK?
Professionally? After I wrap up my current assignment, I'm shooting a film each with Karan Johar and Roshan Sippy. Then I go on a world tour with my dad and Aishwarya. That takes care of 2008.
WHO ELSE GOES
ON THE WORLD
TOUR WITH YOU?
Besides the three of us, there's Akshay Kumar, Riteish Deshmukh, Bipasha Basu and Lara Dutta. We're very excited about it. Preparations are on full swing. Rehearsals will start closer to
the tour in July and August 2008. We go to 30 cities in Europe, Africa, Far East, Middle East, Australia and Europe.
YOU USED TO BE PETRIFIED OF THE STAGE.
Yes, I got over stage fright when I performed at a Tsunami-relief concert. Now I feel it's a wonderful thing to be on stage and perform. It gives me a high, and it's a great opportunity to connect with fans.
DO YOU FEEL SELF-CONSCIOUS WHEN SEEN IN PUBLIC WITH AISHWARYA?
You mean the time cameras went into an overdrive when I visited her in Boston? Not at all. We've to continue carrying on with our normal lives.
HOW NORMAL CAN YOU BOTH BE WITH CAMERAS TRAILING YOU EVERYWHERE?
