Even as his debut film as an actor is set for release, Ranbir Kapoor is also aspiring to turn filmmaker. He wants to follow his grandfather, showman Raj Kapoor's steps and remain both an actor and a filmmaker at the same time.
A source close to the Kapoor Khandaan scion revealed, "Ranbir has already begun writing the script for his first film. He has not revealed to anyone of us what theme the script has or when he intends to begin shooting for it. He wants to revive the legendary R.K. Banner and has started working towards it."

Earlier his father, actor Rishi Kapoor had expressed his wish to start a film which would star his son. But now it seems the Saawariya star has taken the responsibility of doing it himself.
The source also says, "Ranbir is heavily inspired by his late grandfather who had from a very young age successfully struck a fine balance between acting and directing films for his banner. Ranbir has after all begun his career as an assistant director - first under his dad for Aa Ab Laut Chalen (1999) and later under Sanjay Leela Bhansali for Black (2005). Bhansali, who is launching him with Saawariya now, got Ranbir involved with the project from the very initial stages of the film. Right from the scripting stages to set designs and music sittings, Ranbir was a part of all this processes. With training like this under the hands of a genius filmmaker, he has got well acquainted with the basics of filmmaking."
Adds another source, "Ranbir will definitely turn to direction but not so soon. He is waiting for the response to his acting debut that releases coming Diwali. His next release will be the Yash Raj film starring him opposite six Bollywood beauties including, Deepika Padukone, Bipasha Basu and Katrina Kaif. The shooting for this Siddharth Anand-directed film begins later this year. Once he finishes this project, Ranbir will start shooting for his first film as a director. By then his entire scripting and other pre-production planning work for his directorial debut will be completed."
