first of all we sent Laagan, we did not win any thing and why do we have to chakde, whats great about it to win the oscar, if you common man you will like it. But in oscar they look for lot other things not if it masses choice.

Any why I heard chakde was some holywood movies copy.
Any one with a right mind would not send it to Oscar. I thing Indian jury did a right thing.

Its not question of popular actor.

as the last writer was right, Indian like to critisize everyone and everything.

There is no patriotism or unity in us. We watch lot of them but don't follow any.

I agree eklavya is a right choice and live with it..

None of actors have world class acting skills except for few 1.Paresh Raval, 2.Amithab and Anupam Kher, who are nor appreciated any where near to their talents.

I agree with you that Eklavya is a good film but I don't think it is Oscar Material. This year India has came out with some good movies.... I thought Guru was better then Eklavya in technical stands.

I personally thought Gandhi My Father or the runner up film that was nominated should have gone.

I wouldn't consider Gandhi My Father a patriotic film, cause it shows a relationship between a powerful father and a misguided son who wanted to be out of his fathers shadow.

I jut read some artilcle that Eklavya is chosen to go the Oscars instead of other films. I am livid with this desicion made my the jury of sending this movie to the prestigue Oscars. In my opinion "Gandhi My Father", " Chak De India", "Guru", or "Dharam" are far better films then Eklavya... Eklavya wasn't even appriciated by the masses... Is this the type of films that are representing India?

"Gandhi My Father" in my opnion deserves to go then any other films. It has an International appeal and it is one of the better films India has made this year.

I really wonder what were the Juries considering when they elected Eklavya?

What do you all think? Which movie should represent India? Does Eklavya have the international appeal?

The answer to all your questions is yes, Eklavya deserves to go to the Oscars.

The few simple reasons for it to go to the Oscars are:

1) It's an extremely well made movie, craftily directed, and it's to the point.

2) In a very short period, it successfully deals with a myriad of emotions, and deftly deals with all of them without hampering the story even once.

3) It's a very different movie, and the conflict shown between various characters is very well etched out.

4) It also showcases a few rituals still prevalent behind closed doors of our society without actually pulling it down, even once.

5) There are no right or wrongs in the story. It's a simple story to follow, with the right kind of twist which will interest any audience.

6) A very important point in it's favour: it's not a treatise or a preachy documentary on a social condition; nor it's a run of the mill thriller. It's treatment is different, with many factors which are novel not only to Indian cinema, but the world cinema as well. And it's not a copy, or even a subject which has already been dealt with elsewhere. The novelty of the subject is good enough to ride it past through most obstacles.

Guru must have come a close second, but with it's song and dance sequences, length, and too much histronics at some parts might have been a deterer.

Dharam - well, it is too much of an art movie to hold anyone's interest, too slow paced, and the director takes ages to come to the point. Chak de India- while being a fabulous Indian movie, has a subject which has been done to death in scores and scores of movies abroad. It would not have made even the first round. Gandhi my father falls in the same category. While the treatment might be novel, the subject of a famous father and his wayward son is not.

Hence Eklavya emerges as the only clear choice.
