Dressed to thrill? Not reel-y

20 September 2007 City Times asks some leading designers to hand pick B-town's best-dressed dreamgirls. RINA DHAKA, Delhi-based designer, feels, 'Bipasha Basu is the best dressed woman in Bollywood.

Even Preity Zinta comes close. Others like Priyanka Chopra and Aishwarya Bachchan are not so well dressed. Aishwarya, however, is always extremely well turned out on the red carpet. Basically, they're not experimental with their casual dressing.' Designer Varun Behl does not want to name anyone from the film industry in his list of best dressed women but finds 'Sabina Chopra the best dressed for the way she puts things together.'

Former beauty queens and sex sirens Sushmita, Lara and Bipasha rate among the best dressed for designer Pooja Nayyar. She says, 'I find Sushmita Sen very stylish. She never goes wrong with an overdose of anything. While Bipasha has a great sense of style, Lara Dutta at times is very well dressed too. But all of these women do not carry the head-to-toe matched look and thus look elegant.

For Krishna Mehta, Mumbai-based designer Rekha has to be the 'best dressed woman in Bollywood. She's always very elegant and graceful in her saris. Even Hema Malini is well turned out. Today's actresses are a confused lot. They don't know what they are wearing and don't have a style of their own. But I find Priyanka Chopra one of the better dressed ones among the present crop. She's well dressed most of the time, and carries herself well.'

Who do our designers find the worst dressed in B-town? 'The way Mallika Sherawat dresses is quite in your face and it does not look good,' says Pooja.

And surprisingly there are some who don't find even a single woman among the best-dressed lot. Like Delhi-based designer, Rajesh Pratap Singh, who says, 'I just can't comment on who's the best dressed woman in Bollywood, because they're all so badly dressed. All of them look tacky.'

Agrees Milind Soman, when he says, 'All of them are badly dressed. How can I say who is the best dressed?'
