How Vidya got the slim figure?

At first when Vidya expressed her desire to act in movies, her parents refused to give their nod. "My father always said that education is a luxury and we should make the most of it, as this time in college will never come back." she tells.

But God has some other plans for her. After having scored with her first two films, Parineeta and Lage Raho Munna Bhai, Vidya Balan has been happy playing along in films such as Guru, Salaam-E-Ishq, Eklavya and Halla Bol. She now hopes to score again with Heyy Babyy.

In the film, Vidya is paired (or should I say three timed ) opposite Akshay Kumar, Ritiesh Deshmukh and Fardeen Khan who play amorous bachelors living it up in Sydney.

She is the unwed mother of the 'Babyy' and one of three is the father. To teach them a lesson she secretly dumps the baby on them with a note that one of them is the father, forcing them to not just look after the baby but find her mother to determine who the father is.

Vidya, after having repeatedly played the demure ghagra or salwar kameez clad quintessential Indian girl, this time has the boys on the run with her assertiveness and a glamorous western makeover by fashion designer Manish Malhotra.

Vidya says, "I love my look in the film. It's different. The credit for the same goes to Sajid and Manish."

The title track of the film features fifteen Bollywood sex kittens - Amisha Patel, Koena Mitra, Dia Mirza, Shamita Shetty, Neha Dhupia, Malaika Arora, Amrita Arora, Amrita Rao, Tara Sharma, Minissha Lamba, Riya Sen, Sophie Chaudhary, Masumi Makhija, Aarti Chhabria, Hrishita Bhatt – but surprisingly not Vidya Balan.

Vidya succinctly comments, "I have not featured in the song. But I attended the shoot. All of them looked stunning. I told Sajid that I better look good in the film!"

Having chosen Heyy Babyy over another biggie like Laga Chunari Me Daag (date issues), Vidya is banking on Heyy Bayy's box office appeal to incarnate her as the new 'It' girl.

Sajid says he's very impressed with her histrionics and the fact that she is a complete foil to the comic antics of the three leading men, gives her a chance to reaffirm that she's has loads of talent and charm to get her to sail the treacherous waters of what the world knows as Bollywood.

A big admirer of actors like Nargis and Waheeda Rehman, Vidya feels Indian cinema is yet to find artistes like them. And just by idolising the right role models, Vidya, in just two years, managed to achieve what very few debutantes can.

Very few would know this, but Vidya had to work hard to acquire the svelte figure that she now has. Shares Vidya, "I used to be 20 kgs overweight. But I wanted to get into acting. That's when my confidence in doing what I believe in, helped me achieve what I wanted to. It was a terrific feeling."

However, rejection did bother her at times. Vidya could not fathom the reason behind these failures. "It discouraged me to the extent that I started thinking of myself as ugly."
