Amitabh Bachchan will be helping old friend Romesh Sharma revive his son Karan's career. Bachchan acted in Karan's debut film, Dil Jo Bhi Kahey (2005), produced and directed by Romesh, which sank. Karan's Bollywood career was virtually over then and now Big B has stepped in to star in his next without charging a rupee.
Romesh says, "I cannot dream of making a film without him (Big B). I am on the final stages of scripting Karan's next film with him."
When we asked whether the Cheeni Kum star was charging any money, Romesh did not offer comment, but it is learnt that this is the case.
Jaya Bachchan was Romesh's senior at the Film and Television Institute of India (FTII) Pune and has been very close to the Bachchan family for years. He was also an active participant in the Abhi-Aish wedding.
Romesh's first film, Suhaag (1979) starred Amitabh-Rekha-Shashi Kapoor and Parveen Babi, and was a super hit. His next two films – Aitbaar (1985) and Diljala (1987) did not star Bachchan and were duds. Romesh then got Bachchan back with Hum (1991) and delivered a super hit with Bachchan dancing to the hit number Jumma Chumma. He had also played a small role in the film playing Big B's friend Gonsalves and a scene between the two where a drunk Big B explains to him – duniya mein do qism ke kide hotey hai had become very famous.
When he was planning his son's debut film, Romesh wanted both Amitabh and Jaya to play his son's parents role in the film. But, Jaya cited date problems as she was busy with Karan Johar's Kal Ho Na Ho and south actress Revathy was brought in to play the role.
