Abhishek look-alike Devi Singh Raj Purohit to Aishwarya's house and watches the drama unfold
It's 5 pm and I approach my Waterloo with trepidation. I have to fool 25 security guards at La Mer, get into the building, get into Aishwarya's apartment and hand over a bouquet of red roses.
More importantly, I have to make people believe I'm the fianc, Abhishek Bachchan.
MiD DAY reporter Ketan Ranga bolsters my courage and I reach the gate of La Mer in a white Mercedes (hired, of course and with MiD DAY paying the bill, what do I care).
A security guard approaches the car and peeps inside. He is just about to say something when he spots me. I wave my hand slightly in encouragement. He allows the car inside the building. Meanwhile, reporters outside the building go stir crazy taking pictures.
We stop the car in the compound away from the entrance. I am about to get off when a guard runs to me and says, "Arre saheb, entrance ke wahan gaadi lagaiye, aapko achcha padega."
Security is tight with 20 to 25 guards inside the compound and my heartbeat goes up. The watchman sprints to the lift to press the button. I smile and wave him away.
Inside the building
I jab the 11th floor button and realise belatedly that it's Sachin Tendulkar's floor; Aishwarya's on the 8th floor. I get back inside the lift and slip up yet again — I jab the 9th floor button.
Two people in the lift think I'm Abhishek and helpfully point me to Aishwarya's flat. We get off and walk it down when we meet an alert neighbour who recognises I'm a fake.
He accompanies me to Ash's flat and to my surprise I see the door open. (I'm surprised to see she doesn't have a double door). The man calls out to Aditya.
Meeting Ash's brother
"There's someone outside for you," the man tells Aditya.
The brother comes to the door spots the fake and asks us how we had got past security. "Who let you in? Didn't anyone stop and ask you questions?"
I tell him I'm an Abhishek lookalike, and that I was Ash's fan. I proffer my bouquet to him and ask him to give it to her. He turns it down firmly and without being rude, asks us to leave.
Sneak peek
I was at Ash's door for just 8 minutes and unfortunately couldn't see her. The door opens to the living room, but I couldn't see a single sofa set, just an expanse of floor and a dining table to the right. There were eight people sitting around eating and chatting.
I think Aditya called the watchman and told him about the breach, because he started questioning us. But we get into the car quickly and scoot.
