To make it big in Bollywood it helps to be well connected with or part of the film fraternity, but it is not essential. While Aishwarya Rai and Abhishek Bachchan may have had an easy entry into Bollywood – the former because of her Miss World 1994 title and the latter because of his famous parents – other top Bollywood super stars have struggled from rags to riches! Their illustrious stories are examples to all young people. Shah Rukh Khan, who enjoys the title of Badshah of Bollywood and is ranked as India's highest brand today, is an example. Most people may not remember that he came to Mumbai from Delhi after doing the TV serial Fauji and lived a Spartan life in the metro. The promos to his recent KBC season in lighter vein showed how he spent his first days in the city.
Akshay Kumar in a still from Bhagam Bhag. Akshay Kumar too came to Bollywood after a stint as a waiter in Bangkok! With his background of training in martial arts, he looked for work as an action man in films and has come a long way since then. Though some cruel media-persons continued to remind him of his 'chef-waiter' days for some time, they had to eat their own words when he gave hit after hit to be counted among the top stars of Bollywood – especially after he married Twinkle Khanna.
Rani Mukherjee in a still from Kabhi Alvida Naa Kehna. Rani Mukherjee is another star that did C grade films before Ghulam with Aamir Khan catapulted her to the top league. Her father, Ram Mukherjee, was so deep in debt that the family went through the worst phase of their lives until Rani became one of Bollywood's busiest stars. Rani has not forgotten those days of deprivation and the courage of her mother. So with the new Yashraj Films' release Tara Rum Pam, she has paid homage to her mother's fortitude through a song in the film. According to her, the film also centers on the sudden financial crisis of a wife after her husband's accident and how she copes with the calamity. Rani has always pampered her parents, brother Raja and his wife and child and given them every imaginable luxury that she can. Last year, she bought a luxury home and moved her whole family to a deluxe suite of a five star hotel for months while star designers Twinkle Khanna and Suzanne Roshan completed the design of the new home to meet her taste
