The 108-kgs lighter Adnan Sami holds forth on why he refused Sunil Shetty's upcoming reality show
| Letting It Out: Adnan Sami | Adnan Sami has lost 108 kilos in the last 10 months and wants to lose more, but what amused him recently was a visit from officials from SaharaOne.
They wanted him to appear in their new reality show The Biggest Loser, hosted by Sunil Shetty.
Says Adnan, "The Biggest Loser is a fantastic concept but my weight-loss process is already underway and I have already won my jackpot:
I've lost over 40 kilos in a few months, so I had to refuse.
Even the SaharaOne people were shocked when they saw me. They came to me thinking that I fit their bill but when they saw me, they said, 'Sorry but we thought you would be bigger!"
Private eye
Over and above this, Adnan refused the show for personal reasons. "I had certain reservations about the show. If you are losing weight to win prize money, then that's the wrong reason to join the show.
There are other ways of winning money. The main reason to lose weight should be for health reasons.
Secondly, I was uncomfortable about being constantly monitored on camera. I am a very private person by nature," he admits.
The singer-composer feels that he still has 25 kilos more to lose to be considered fit. "That's my target. When I went to see my family in USA earlier this year, they were delighted to see the new me. More than happy, they were relieved.
After what I went through sometime ago, I am very lucky to have achieved what I have. Now, I want to start a platform for people with similar issues and assist them in getting healthy once again.
A lot of people have told me how I've inspired for them, so I think I should reach out to more people now," he adds.
Musical catharsis
Apart from losing weight, Adnan has been busy getting his new album Kisi Din together. He says, "My music is like an emotional catharsis and this album is reflective of my state of mind. It's my ultimate form of therapy.
I am at my honest best when I'm composing or singing and I don't have to skirt any issues. It took me three years to put this album together as those were very tough years for me.
So much has happened during this time and I've glad I've come out of it a happier, fitter person."
Talking about the album, he says, "There is a tremendous amount of love in Kisi Din. There are some romantic tracks like Teri Yaad and Baarish, along with funny ones like Salaam Aleikum about an extremely lecherous guy!
The album is sheer fun, romance and tongue-in-cheek madness! We've already shot two music videos, one with Yana Gupta and the other with a new girl called Avaan." |
