If you ask me the concept of Dunki actually had potential. In real life there have been many Indians who tired of the life they were living here made a dunki to foreign countries. They had to face a lot of troubles to reach their destination, albeit illegally. And now many of them have been sent back to their home, as we have seen with the deportation in Amritsar recently. The movie also showed how many of them had realized that things were not a lot better there than here. However, the concept was not executed well enough, and SRK’s presence in the movie completely overshadowed the film’s noble intentions.

Ashutosh, Maniratnam, Imtiaz Ali, Anand L Rai, Hirani, Mahesh bhatt, Gauri Shinde..quite a few. Even King uncle, Koyla and Pardes weren’t great hits so can count Rakesh Roshan and Subhash Ghai

Hirani made a film on an outdated topic and was preachy on top. Also, his script was abysmal. 👎

Actually the concept of illegal immigration was not bad but the main problem was execution of the story. While watching the movie I literally felt like Hirani was so eager to do a movie with srk that he didn't work on anything else. He probably thought srk's presence in the movie is enough to make it superhit. There were so many inconsistencies in the story. The reasons for the characters to take such a tough and risky decision to take the dunki route were not strong enough. They were in dire need of money. They could have first tried their luck by migrating to a big city or town in India instead of migrating to a different country and that too illegally.

SRK's visa speech was so annoying in this film...every country has a right to decide who they want to open their borders to..especially in a politically and socio-culturally volatile world..where terrorism and grooming gangs are a reality....it was just a below average movie from Hirani..
