Ranis main movie was black where she excelled her debut was horrendous then marrying into yrf helped her to get movies once she wasn’t relevant or A listers not wanting to work with her. In taalash she played second fiddle to Kareena and Kareena stole the show. And no she wasn’t some flowerpot she became a star on her debut movie and won best actress debut with solider and appreciated in dil se movie which had experienced actors and as an outsider held her own.

Kajol is better then rani by leaps n bounds but she retired early to marry. Then there is juhi madhuri sridevi. Anyhow preity and rani were main in that time with Aish and Kareena. And rani and preity are comparable in movies etc as both also worked together in many movies but I could not tolerate her voice and things had she not married Aditya Chopra she be in same state.

funny u mention Talaash . Because Rani was playing a depressed mother and had far lesser scenes than kareena who played an attractive escort role . The ppl with depth actually appreciated Rani for playing a grieving mother . It’s actually one of her best performances.

Hers this article again with preity n rani it’s subjective who’s better. I gave her credit with black that’s only movie to be that where I think she excelled and preity in kya kehna was bold movie she took part in that’s my opinion. The other movies it’s subjective though to me kal ho na ho veer Zaara solider dil de the movie with salman her an rani and some others were enjoyable and stood out. Both worked with the khans and roshans but I liked preitys pairing with them more. Rani I thought was better with saif or abhi jr( my perspective) and Hrithik and preity did three movies together and Rani only one where kareena outshined her in that movie. It’s good Rani still working in movies and I have seen her new mpvoes now I’m indifferent to her but when she was in her prime I didn’t it was Preity and then Kareena. When Preity wasn’t there and Kareena not doing much it didn’t matter in between I liked many Katrina ( though my reasons aren’t what others are as it only with select pairing) now I enjoy Alia and Kiarra in the new gen but I’m not diehard on any. And yes, Kareena has surpassed these just because she pretty much always dictated what roles she wants to do. From blockbuster flowerpots to really deglam'd egdy roles, she was doing both in her early days as well. Helped her transition to the 2010s without the baggage of an image. Also, like she has come to enjoy her life and works just for the satisfaction of it. Never tried to hard as grew in years

Rani playing tough roles did not negate her "homely girl-next-door" image then when films did becomr more sex positive, she tried to transition to roles like Aiyya and Dil Bole Hadippa. I love Aiyya but it did not work generally. Also the acting trends changed by the 2010s.

Saying that playing unwed mothers twice is not a challenge when most 90s heroines called themselves "virgins" in the press is ridiculous. LOL
