Gen Z is broker than millennials. They are not making any waves in box office spending.
Fighter failed because it was derivative. There was nothing fresh. It seemed a mishmash of previous films. And even if one claims the film is fresh - the promotion was still stale. Even if you have the best hot fudge sundae, if you promote it as poop, there will be no takers. And if the word of mouth isn't taking off perhaps it indeed is poop and not hot fudge sundae.
Merry Christmas flopped simply because it was released at the wrong time and place. Many well-received movies and cult classics flopped upon release because people just didn't appreciate it.
Millennials, Gen X, and Boomers make up a majority of the market. Millennial and Gen X men are very much the biggest consumers of the hyperviolent movies released of late. Gen Z actually is put off by hypersex and hyperviolence.
