What does Rajkumar Hirani provide to the film going audience for them to revere him? He truly is put on a pedestal, and I sense a hint of arrogance in him... as though he's a 'Mister know it all...'

Most importantly, do you think his films have repeat value?

P.S. I think Sanju was a blemish on his record.

Munnabhai 1 for sure has the most repeat value of all the films

I’d say him and Bhansali know their audiences and can mix commercial entertainment with w nice story well. Until now atleast let’s see what future holds

Except Sanju, all his movies have great repeat value.

He keeps light hearted with emotions and social commentary mixed in it and of course the smooth screen play. What’s not to like?

Yes Sanju is a huge blemish on his otherwise exemplary filmography. His movies were always about honesty, love and respect until he one day decided to put fuel to all his credibility and throw a match stick on it by making that filthy Sanju.

Oh yes. Huge repeat value( of course, except Sanju).

I rewatched Munna Bhai recently and it was still hilarious. My favorite out of his movies is still 3 Idiots. Watched that so many times!

Munna Bhai series I can not switch the channel if it's on.

3I I watched multiple times in theatre. smiley42

Sanju is strictly one time watch, couldn't fathom the topic he picked to display. smiley11

Liked PK except Amir's overacting, wished he took some other younger actor. smiley2

Dunki I will be watching 4-5 times in theatre. Likh ke le lo. smiley36

P.S. - I also loved loved loved the way he uses Boman Irani. That Munna Bhai laughtersmiley37, or Virus smiley16 or Get Well Soon emotional touchhhy momentsmiley36. Man, let me go run and check if Dunki has BI. smiley27

Hirani's strengths were always simplicity and sincerity. The problem with PK and Sanju was that his film-making style didn't feel sincere anymore. The desperate attempt at manufacturing new catchphrases (Missed call and Question mark), the gimmicky music, and the parade of cameos. It all feels forced and formulaic now.

Sanju is almost certainly one of his stronger films in terms of direction. It's much better crafted than most of his films, and he extracted much better performances than usual. But the kitschy treatment doesn't work for a man like Sanjay Dutt.

Regardless, his very worst is still significantly better than the average bollywood film, so I am hopeful for Dunki. As long as SRK's creative inputs to the film were near zero, we should be fine.
