I actually never took that song as her not wanting to get married. It sounds like her gaslighting herself because Joe didn't want to get married.

I think it may be a rebound/fun-fling. She got out of a long-term relationship and has a break from touring. Why not? Good for her. But the media circus around it has gotten icky.

Compounded with Midnight Rain - I interpreted that Joe wanted to settle and Taylor wasn't ready. Speculation. But she does imagine a daughter-in-law in anti-hero - so its on the horizon someday.

That kind of thing he does every 3 months. Comes back on social media, tweets like an edgelord, picks a fight and then deactivates. Half the songs in the last record were about his (multiple) cancellation (s) during COVID. It's his version of getting material.

When he got initially involved with Taylor, his streams exploded and the new tour took a huge start. They fizzled out equally quick when the swifties turned on him. We will see how the next album cycle plays out. I do think there's going to be some lasting damage.

The media circus is icky. But she has been around long enough to know this was going to happen. Her goodwill has never been higher, and the overall reaction seems to be positive from what I see.

Midnight Rain seems to be about her older flames. The album would have to be finished by Q1 2022 for the vinyls to be finished in time. And I just don't think she was writing break up songs about him in 2021. I know a lot of her fans rebranded the entire album into a Joe breakup album. But the vibe I always got was a career retrospective.

You're Losing Me again mentions he is the one who doesn't want to get married. I also think he got cold feet and ran away. A lot of her immediate behavior has been very trying to win the breakup. Which usually indicates the aggrieved party.

That said I do like how extra she has been with the whole thing. No soft launches, no rumors. Just straight up driving around town in a rolled down convertible. Go big or go home.

She's no stranger to the media circus. But now that she's even more famous - it has gotten ickier. But I'm sure she doesn't care.

Hmm. I guess your interpretation makes sense. It aligns well with how chaotic and messy she has been this year.
