Better Sitcom ? Friends or Big Bang Theory ? - Page 3

The big bang theory. It's more relatable to me (well, except for the star war and gaming)

I tried to watch Friends but gave up after a few episodes. My husband watched the entire show; he, too, has the same opinion. We rewatched TBBT a lot.

Friends because I couldn't sit through TBBT

The only sitcom 90s/00s sitcom which has aged well is Seinfeld

It's hard to say, BBT had taken some template sequences from Friends. Humour in BBT is more sophisticated, Friends is gaggy.

I watched them real time (Friends after S4) rather than binge watch so it's a different feeling altogether.

I remember shipping Penny- Sheldon from 2008-2011, I stopped watching it after S5, couldn't believe it was the same show that had episodes like 'The love car displacement' not so long back. I feel like they Trojan horsed Amy/Mayim into the main cast. Couldn't stand the character or Mayim and what they turned Sheldon into.

Never found Chandler is so gay as a diss, a point of laughter. And to think this was based in NY!!

I mean not that comedy shows in the UK in the 90's were any better; Keeping up appearances was racist.

Noticed Chuck Lorre shows always have a stock "loser" character, on whom misfortune happens to fall upon. It was Alan in 2 1/2 men and Stuart in BBT.

TBBT is so cringe and over the top, even for a slapstick comedy. Could not finish the show because the comedy was so flat

Friends is miles ahead with its characters and comedy. Still relevant and incredibly funny

One thing I definitely think Friends did better than TBBT is female friendships.In TBBT penny-amy-bernadette were so forced together,it was like "their men are hanging out let's make these three hang out together too" Penny could still fit in with both Amy and Bernie individually but Amy n Bernie had so much dislike for each other.

Anyway I never understood why penny hung out with all those 6 scientists ALL the time.They really did her character dirty.

While in friends Monica and Rachel were the closest,their friendship was natural and phoebe-rachel were given some good fun and/or bonding situations too.(I can't remember anything substantial that was given to monica-phoebe,but still overall way better than tbbt in this regard).

Oh there were quite a few plotlines about Monica and Phoebe's friendship.

- the whole arc of them doing catering together

- when they both fell for the hot stranger and took care of him in the hospital

- their past as roommates and friendship with Amanda

- Monica overseeing Phoebe's wedding

I remembered these plot lines but I thought none resulted in a more close friendship for monica-phoebe like the plot line of Rachel living with phoebe did when phoebe taught her how to live more freely without caring about what other people think.

But ig since phoebe was too aloof and free and Monica so controlling,it is rather realistic that they weren't soooo close.

I can imagine your rage about penny's character arc,writers didn't care about her profession,her love life or her friendships.
