I totally agree.

I have stopped watching Hindi OTT content these days because I have to always be on the edge not knowing when some vulgar scene will pop up out of the blue no matter how carefully I select the content. Most of the times these scenes are totally non necessary. 🤢

Because they think showing vulgarity and using profanity equals being woke

This year on OTT releases, I have seen Trial By Fire, Farzi, Tooth Pari, SBF, Dahaad, School of Lies, and Kathal. None of them seem to be too vulgar for me. I would totally watch them with my family. Then again, nothing says the holidays for me more than an SVU marathon.

And jeez, how prudish are people? It is true. Gen Z is the no-sex generation.

Because OTT viewing is considered as personal not as a group activity.Because the target audience are teenagers - the male species specifically. So sex, violence and an "elevation" or "goosebump" scene every 10s. There's no such thing as delayed gratification or slowburn these days.

It's years of policing which is rebelling out now.

Like a kid who has been with strict parents all his life. He decides to explore everything when he starts living by himself. Even in Marathi series there is abusive language and sex scenes.

Soon it'll stop.

Everything need not be watched with families too. Learn to watch stuff alone or with friends. It's fine.

There are some shows for the family though.

Panchayat, Gullak.

I think the post means more of family friendly happy shows and all these are criminal or dark types.

We stick to Punjabi films and shows for family now. Hindi I'd only watch with my partner or alone... it's sad. There is only the odd one out like I thought Jug Jug Jeeyo was probably the last film promoted as a family entertainer, but even that many vulgar dialogues 🥲

There are family-friendly shows and movies like Happy Family, Gulmohar, Panchayat, Kota Factory, Mismatched, Little Things, etc. If you look, there is OTT content for all tastes and likes. I think the darker, grittier, more sensual shows get more popular because the audience doesn't often get them in movies or regular TV.

Streaming in India is like what HBO and Showtime were to the USA in the 2000s. Shows like Sex and the City, Sopranos, True Blood, Deadwood, Six Feet Under, L Word, Queer as Folk, and Boardwalk Empire blew up as they showed sex, drugs, and violence in a manner not seen on network television. Now Sex and the City and Sopranos seem passe. The audience will always gravitate toward novelty they don't get elsewhere.
