SRK's career without Kjo & Yrf films would NOT have gone far.

Yash-ji put A LOT OF RESOURCES in making SRK a success 🥳

KKHH, Kal Ho na Ho, K3G, MNIK are Dharma films.

Ra One and MNIK were not clean hits. They are given this tag now after adding all earnings from rights and overseas. Kind of same hit tag as Brahmastra.

Why leave out Dharma and also fact that K3G, KKHH, KHNH are multi starrers? Darr, DTPH are also multi starrers. 2 heroine or 2 hero flicks, foreign locations and big PH.

Pardes is a solo starrer. How many more films are solo hits?

OSO, MHN, CDI relied on his star power. Karan Arjun is multi starrer. DDLJ is solo vehicle but YRF film.

Forget YRF and Dharma, I wonder how many hits he would have without repeating jodi with Kajol.

Baazigar, DDLJ, K3G, KKHH, Dilwale, Karan Arjun, MNIK all reliant on Kajol jodi factor. He even brings other stars for special appearance to make film more watchable like multi starrer song in OSO or Kajol, Bipasha, Rani song in RNBDJ, Kajol and Rani in KHNH song.

How many other actors rely on one specific jodi with actress or multiple special appearances by other stars?

Also how many hits beyond lover boy (jilted or ideal lover)?

Not for Aamir or others at all.

Aamir has mostly worked for small banners or medium banners or flop directors and hardly repeats directors.

Inder Kumar, Mansoor (his cousin), Ashutosh Gowariker, Raju Hirani are the only directors Aamir ever repeated.

Ashutosh was flop director until Lagaan. John Matthew Matthan was new when Aamir did Sarfarosh with him. Dharmesh Darshan was flop/average but Aamir gave ATBB Raja Hindustani with him. Vikram Bhatt was new when Aamir did Ghulam with him. Rakesh Mehra had flop Aks behind him when Aamir did RDB with him. 3 Idiots is first ATBB of Hirani's career. Farhan was new when Aamir did DCH with him. RGV was still trying to find feet in BW when Aamir did Rangeela with him. Ghajini is first ATBB of AR Murugadoss' career.

Sunny Deol gave an ATBB like Gadar with a flop guy like Anil Sharma.

Amitabh has given hits with everyone from Hrishikesh Mukherjee, Shakti Samanta, Manmohan Desai to Yash Chopra, Mukul Anand, Ramesh Sippy, Deven Verma etc.

He never relied on 2 or one banners or directors or even a particular jodi as he would give hits with everyone be it Rekha or Parveen or Sridevi or Meenakshi or Dharam or Vinod or Shashi or Rishi.

Salman too has given big hits with newbies like Abhinav Kashyap in Dabangg and never relied on just Rajshris. Sooraj was new though when Salman did MPK with him.

I am wondering, while he was doing everything for Shah, why didn't he leave YRF to him? I mean he would have handled it better than Aditya and it's not like Yash Chopra loved his kids, the sole purpose of his life was building the brand "SRK".

Yes Jazz, I totally agree with you. You are absolutely right ⭐️

I do agree that sticking to friends like YRF, Dharma, Farah somewhere lost us the actor in SRK and stereotyped him as just king of romance. His films became very predictable by 2004-2005. Same old Kajols, Preitys, Ranis, Madhuris, Ashs and romantic gazes and songs at exotic locations.

Even supporting cast was similar with Smita Jayakar, Reema Lagoo, Anupam and Kirron Kher, Johny Lever or Farida Jalal, Himani Shivpuri.

A significant section of audience began to get weary of him and outgrew him. And other Khans marched ahead with different genres and so did likes of Hrithik who carved their own niche, found own audience.

SRK has been struggling to find his groove since then and has had no big success post OSO nor a critically acclaimed hit since CDI.

I think Dharma and YRF stereotyped and caricatured him. MNIK was a different film and SRK attempted a good act yet Dharma marketed it solely on basis of return of SRK and Kajol jodi and love story, which is what backfired for film and the regular audience was unable to grasp subject of film and they went ahead thinking it was another romantic film.

SRK had potential to do a lot more diverse work as actor if he did not stick to YRF, Dharma.

Shocking how he refused films like Lagaan, RDB, 3 Idiots and Munnabhai series only to do crap like KANK or HNY etc. Others went ahead reinventing themselves but SRK is yet to find his groove. YRF gave ETT and D3 to Aamir and Salman who were not known for action or stunts originally yet SRK got same old romantic fare in JTHJ from YRF.

He is attempting action in Pathaan which is good. I do not want to see him in romantic films.

YRF has biggest penetration in overseas markets and Indian markets and is biggest PH of India. Being their darling has its advantages.

To say SRK made YRF is a joke given how Chopras were always powerful.

This is something fans don't seem to realise. SRK was insanely popular overseas and in posh urban metros.

Go to Reddit's Bollywood subs and you will find a SRK appreciation thread every single day. As they're largely dominated by NRIs. SRK's PR game is unparalleled.

It would be unwise to claim that Dharma and YRF "made" SRK. That's not entirely true. But SRK being their golden boy helped elevate his superstar status.

If you want to look at box-office collections, SRK hasn't delivered an AtBB since KKHH. That's nearly a quarter of a century. He hasn't notched up 3 crores in footfalls since K3G. In the same timeframe, Salman and Aamir have three movies with 3+ crores footfalls.

As atominis mentioned, YRF (and Dharma later on) have always had the biggest penetration in overseas market. In India alone, YRF has been the biggest production house for decades. Dharma is second.

It would be unfair to pin all of SRK's successes on those production houses. But as we've seen with Alia, if you have the talent to back it up, YRF/Dharma will ensure that you are perceived as the best. They did it with SRK. They've done it with Alia. SRK obviously is extremely talented.

Then again, his big five blockbusters (DDLJ, KKHH, K3G, Karan Arjun, DTPH), 4/5 were with Dharma/YRF. His 3 crores footfalls came in DDLJ, KKHH, K3G and Karan Arjun. 3/4 with YRF/Dharma again.

No doubt they propelled his career to greater heights. It would be rewriting history if we denied so.
