This judge is not and outlier, unfortunately.

There’s an entire culture and society of rape apologist and even enablers that have made it easy for this judge to rule like this. It’s been happening for generations and probably will happen for generations to come.

When Disha the veterinarian was gang raped and killed a politician (I do not remember his name) had actually suggested that rape should become legal because they only reason Disha was killed is because her rapists were afraid of going to jail.

Watch the documentary India’s daughter about Nirabhaya gang rape and murder. The rapists’ lawyers on camera blamed her for it and said things like how a woman is a delicate flower that shouldn’t be out at night or some shit like that.

Families need to do a better job raising their sons and for that to happen generational mentality of patriarchy and misogyny has to end. It’s not gonna happen overnight, but the problem is no one wants to start.

BTW, this is not limited to India or Central Asia. Rape cultural and mistreatment of victims is something that transcends geography and culture. A few years ago a judge here (United States) came under fire because he gave a college student who raped an unconscious girl probation because he didn’t want to ruin his life. The main difference is in the west it is a lot easier for people to speak up and call out the rape culture.

FACT: Caste, Skin-Tones and Religion are ALL TOLERATED by our cultural schisms. One should not be surprised by the stories, WE ALL HAVE ENABLED. 👎🏼

I think rapists deserve to be castrated with a cheese grater, but I do not trust the justice system to fairly convict the guilty.

In the USA many innocent black men and other folks of color have been imprisoned and executed on false rape charges. To Kill a Mockingbird is revolved around an innocent black man being convicted of rape, something that was common at the time. Just Mercy is about an innocent black man imprisoned for rape. Emmet Till was 14 when he was lynched for allegedly catcalling a woman.

Vigilante mobs still exist in India. Families accuse rape or seduction in cases of consensual intercaste/interfaith relationships. I have zero faith that the justice system will protect the innocents.

That is why even though I believe rapists are low lives who should not be sustained on tax-payer money - I oppose the death penalty and vigilantism because of the social biases that will victimize certain groups.
