Big B is hardly criticized for the raunchy and appalling "Boom" and Ek Ajnabi where, very charitably put,he was low to middling...But heaven forbid SRK hams it up once,he's cussed out,which is unfair..Agreed Don and KANK werent the best peice of cinema we've seen,but give that guy a break..Even Big B has done bad films,and films where his acting was strictly mediocre...
You are absolutely spot on,when you say Ash stepping into Rekha's shoes wasnt HYPED too much....There lies the difference,Rekha and Ash both arent as big as Big B and SRK respectively,thus there was no hype..Whereas when it came to Don,it was one superstar stepping into the shoes of a living legend,so definitely alot of ink was wasted comparing and hyperbolizing the "cold war",SRK was at the recieving end of the vituperative remarks..Makes for wonderful saucy juicy morsels in dailies of the yellow hue,and for those interested in "choice bit of dirt"
SRK does not need to copy Big B to make a successful career,SRK is allready super duper successful and stinking rich!!And whatever he has achieved today is by his own merit...Big B and SRk are as different as chalk and cheese,Big B was the angry young man,SRK was the chocolate boy....The kind of films they made were different,they belonged to different eras...I dont see how we can call SRk a copycat only because he did Don and KBC...Salman is remaking Amar Akbar Antony,do we paint him as wannabe Ab too??...
SRK is trying to build the "BRAND SRK",and this entire "brand" concept is pretty new and is currently the dernier cri...AB wasnt considered a brand in his heydays,but today he is one...Ditto with SRK....He's just being au fait with the new trends ..The 21st century economy is at the cutting edge of "BRAND" building,Both Big B and SRk cashed in on the newfangled Indian economy....KBC only helps in the BRAND BUILDING process..Even John Abraham considers himself to be a BRAND,in his own way he's trying to build up his brand(by releasing his calender,clothing line,sunglasses line,bikes being named after him etcetera)..Every actor tries to build a brand which is the the latest fad..We have even sportsmen building p their brands..Sachin endorses a avalanche of products,Gavaskar has also featured in one advertisement recently..That doesnt mean he's copying Sachin...Reiterating, brand building is a recent fad,and EVERYONE worth their salt,EVERYONE who is popular,and predominently, EVERYONE WHO SELL are cashing in!!..Big B's visage and SRK's visage sell,so they market themselves well...!!
