Actually the concept of mehendi was for both the bride and groom. Mehendi was said to protect hands and feet and cool the body as they would be under stress.

There was no concept of darker the mehendi , deeper the love too

Of course now it is a case of ritual or celebration/party

Grooms also have mehendi as well.😆 Although, it's just for shagun ke liye and not mandatory.

But I agree, full-fledged bridal type mehendi on groom's hands looks a bit awkward.
