i think Ranbir's reputation precedes him too here. He's not exactly a poster boy of chivalry or gentleman-ly behavior in public and people naturally don't wanna give him that benefit of doubt seeing him kick the lehenga so thoughtlessly. That's the price he pays for his disrespectful behavior in the past even with his previous gf's.
He looks so zoned out all the time, i bet he was probably thinking of what's for lunch or something while trying to hurry down the stairs absentmindedly. đ
