Case for better censorship

First things first: I believe in rating and not censorship.

But since that'll never happen in India, as whoever is in power is wary of artistic content that disagrees with their politics. So let's be realistic and just settle for the censor board for now.

I feel:

'A' rated movies should be allowed anything. Violence, sex, drugs, horror,.. you name it (hoga nahin, but bhaavnaon ko samjho).

'U/A' needs to be split into 2 parts. Kissing scenes, violence, item songs etc should be differentiated from mild romance or violence.

'U' should be completely clean (no innuendos, NO violence not even a slap, no romance).

The problem today is that content labeled U (for ALL ages) is filled with sensuous songs and violence as well. U/A is full of gore and "bold" scenes.

It's a mess, and there are good chances of either the guardians or the children squirming.

What kind of movie/video could possibly meet the above criteria, especially with the no romance tag? The only ‘U’ rated content I can think of is:

They should use the MPAA rating system:

G or U for films that are meant for everyone, totally safe for children.

Split U/A into:

PG for movies with slightly unsuitable material.

PG-13 for movies with material that could be considered unsuitable for anyone who has not reached teen years.

And then the A category should be:

R for films where anyone under 18 will need to be accompanied by an adult who will take their responsibility. Its not like teenagers are stupid in today's internet age.

NC-18 for films restricted to adults only which should be the new A category. Allow whatsoever because its gonna be uncensored on streaming anyway.

I remember wanting to watch Breaking Dawn Part 1 in theatres but the CBFC had given it an A certification! Twilight's majority demographic at the time could not even go watch the film! And they gave Part 2 a U/A certification but chopped off the vampire sex scene like wtf you think we're stupid 🤪😆

I hear you. Bollywood has made us believe that is the only possibility.

But there was a time when such movies used to exist.

By romance I was referring to anything that is not suitable for small kids. Think of it as the G rating in Hollywood. There are extremely few movies that are G rated, but they exist.

Few Bollywood examples that come to mind:

Guddi

Jhoothi

Bawarchi

My most favorite movie of all times: Chupke Chupke

Taare Zameen Par (I don't remember if it has slapping though)

A Marathi movie that comes to mind - Killa (please watch it if you can. An excellent watch ❤️)

I'm pretty sure more exist out there.

But yeah, incredulous as it may sound, the concept of U exists!!!

And as useless as it may sound, you'll realize its value if you ever decide to have kids 😆

Yes MPAA is great.

In abroad countries many a times Bollywood releases movies without even getting them rated.

I don't know whatever it's to save on cost of getting rated, or, to allow families bring their children to adult movies without ruffling their conscience.

Indian censor board only needs two categories IMO:

Safe to watch with family/not safe to watch with family.

Sometimes you want to watch a movie with your parents, sometimes with kids. Sometimes it's an outing with friends, other times its with colleagues.

My eldest is scared of a Disney animation movie for kids, but a few years down the line I'd want to watch superhero movies with them. A SuperHero movie can be either Sonic the Hedgehog or Suicide Squad!

I find these ratings incredibly helpful, and am frustrated when I don't get accurate information.

Does anyone know a good website/forum that informs the content type for Bollywood movies?

E.g. sex, nudity, violence, drugs, foul language etc.
