Yeah I was thinking the same...absolute worst luck for Akshay, can't blame him for feeling terrible about this.

he has many desh bhakt movies to mint money
last year also when this movie was about to release lockdown announced.
Probably just release it offline
This sucks man! 😔
Akshay is having trouble releasing movies that are already in the cans - Laxmi Bomb went to OTT and Sooryavanshi is stuck for more than a year. Yet he still went crazy during a pandemic signing new films and filming them like he was going to die if he didn't release a gazillion films a year. Bellbottom will probably go to OTT and now he's gotten half the crew of Ram Setu sick along with himself.
Can't he just sit at home for 6 months and leave us alone? Please spare us from another Akshay movie.
Agar Shetty ki dimag satak gaya toh... kya pata piratebay par hi na release kar de frustration mein aake ....

Shetty is stuck because he knows if they release on OTT, this film will get trashed like Coolie No.1 and Laxmi Bomb did. They need to release in single screens to get the working class audience that likes these crappy masala movies. It's gonna be a big disaster if it goes to Netflix or Prime.
As per insiders, Shetty is ready to release the movie and take any kind of deal from streaming platforms but its Akki and KJO who are major profit sharing partners who are not willing to accept the offered price by these streaming platforms.
Akki these days works in films with small base remuneration (~10Cr.) and huge profit sharing percentage (ard. 25%). Dharma is distribution partner who invested huge percentage in production for the sake of raking in large sum of money as distributor through wide release both in domestic and international market. .
If Shetty sells to Netflix or Amazon Prime they won't get enough money to even recover their production cost now. Already they have lost much due to delay and huge interest rate incurred due to it.
Considering their current situation, they might eventually opt for some good deal from third party streaming partners like Hot Star or Jio, etc. They might wait for another month at most, if situation doesn't improves they will have to release online to avoid further loss. After all losses are not new thing to Bollywood producers like Karan Johar.
