Who will win best new face female of 2025?
Member topic: What do you do on weekends?
He is a creep and a misogynist with a strong dose of moral narcissism and whiny entitlement.
Oh, you also asked for best qualities. 😆 Apparently the fact women like toxic boyfriends.
Good quality - He loved intensely and completely
Bad quality - Love became toxic, he couldn't stand up against his family, he lost the love of his life because of his own actions
Devdas had all the qualities of a boyfriend from hell.
Obsessive - check
Anger management problem - check
Unable to rise to the occasion - check (I mean, he could have easily asked her hand for marriage but he didn't and missed the boat)
He was a man, a well-educated one and from an elite family. He could have called the shots if he knew how to play his cards right but no, he is so blinded with rage that he storms off the house cuz of his MASSIVE ego and that brings us to...
Megalomania - Check!
Unable to stand up for yourself in your own house - check
Illogical - check
Victim complex - check
In his defense, Paro was equally awful. So they liked each other when they were five? Those were the days ... when you could sell your soul to the devil called love at the age of five and be done for the rest of your life.
Sorry ... you asked for some positives too. I guess he could have made for a good whipped husband, but that's also questionable considering his abusive ways.
Okay.. let me try some positivity for REAL. Devdas was from an elite family and pretty well-educated ... money and education always adds that extra layer of appeal no matter what kind of a douchebag you are. He had those nice SRK eyes ... 😆 too bad his brain was too souped up with all that alcohol and brothel living.
Maybe if he hadn't gone off the rails after the evil aunt's dirty games, he had the potential to be a great lover. "What could have been" is a fantasy though ... we don't know if there woulda been a happily ever after considering his difficult personality.
All in all, I absolutely detest the concept of love shown in this movie and am unable to reconcile it with my outlook on life and love. But I like all the effort SLB takes while portraying the cultural and traditional aspects and building magnificent sets for his movies.
Devdas is Kabir Singh done right . He dies an awful death and never gets the girl
He sounded like Udit Narayan 😆
Devdas is a cautionary tale of toxic love. He doesn't have many redeeming qualities.
He is a privileged spoiled brat who believes he should get whatever he wants. Even his love for Paro is an entitlement he believes he possesses. He has no spine or self-identity and is unable to stand up for the woman he loves. Rather than rectifying his mistakes becomes a bitter resentful alcoholic who severs all his ties and relationships.
Paro too isn't perfect. She has too much pride and vanity. She too feels entitled to Devdas on account of her beauty. When he doesn't accept her right away, she too develops a grudge. Eventually, when he tries to fix his mistakes her pride comes in the way and she would rather marry an old widower rather than forgive Devdas.
Devdas is pretty much Pride and Prejudice gone downhill.
That being said I don't think Devdas is entirely a bad person. The entire point of the book and movies is to show how social norms and conventions can bring out the worst in people. Perhaps if Dev and Paro didn't have these societal burdens and expectations they would be different people.
I do love SLB's Devdas though. It's like a Greek tragedy playing out in opulent colonial India. It's right up there with Great Gatsby. Larger-than-life losers who somehow still manage to wow and charm because of how their stories are told.
His love for paro. But aise pyaar ka kya fayda
Cowardly
Manipulative
Passive Aggressive
Exploitative
Entitled
Moderately annoying.
And Ofcourse self destructive.
With all that drinking I doubt going to brothels was of any use other than getting to watch the mujra .
