Rani's performance in Kuch Kuch Hota Hai

Was re-watching Kuch Kuch Hota Hai last night and man, Rani killed it. She was so freaking adorable as Tina, and her acting was absolutely on point. She was the best part about the movie⭐️

I know the makers gave more screen time to SRK-Kajol and they do have great chemistry, but neither of them can match Rani's skills, tbh.

I know Kuch Kuch Hota Hai is touted as a SRK-Kajol movie but Rani was the highlight for me...and I loved her character Tina so much...funny, compassionate and observant.

Performance wise, it is the best performance of the film.

Funnily enough I also rewatched KKHH quite recently and even though I've always loved Rani in it, as much as SRK-Kajol, but this time it was different, I was so mesmerised by Rani. To think she had just done one film before this, her makeover, transformation, glow-up for sure helped but where did she pull that performance out of? She wasn't considered a "hot chick" before this role, so she didn't have personal experience to draw from, but she embodied it, and how. But more than that, her sensibilities and ACTING shine through so bright. She's only there briefly in the film, but Tina stays with you, 23 years later. Iconic.

SRK was the weak link.

Kajol > Rani > SRK

Thought she was average. Not enough for a FF award. Then again they just hand those things out like food

I think it's a testament to Rani's acting talent that she managed to make Tina work despite lacking everything that the character requires. Tina was meant to be the femme fatale college bombshell, whereas Rani is plain jain in looks; Tina was meant to be sexy, and Rani is generally girl next doorsy in looks; Tina was supposed to be tall, hot, have a voluptuous figure, whereas Rani is short, petite, etc. And yet ... she makes Tina work, and work so well.

And considering this was her 2nd or 3rd film, that's even more amazing. Sure Ghulam/KKHH would have worked with or without Rani, but the fact is she managed to stand alongside established actors like Aamir, SRK, Kajol and never got overshadowed by them.

Rani was essentially a newcomer that year. I mean sure she did RKAB in 96, but then she took a break for 2+ years and came back with Ghulam and KKHH which wee her 2nd and 3rd film. So yes 98 is her proper debut year. The fact that she managed to perform well alongside established actors like Aamir SRK Kajol says a lot.

That said, I don't find her to be the best performer of the film. Kajol easily stole the show. However Rani was great for a newcomer that she was.

It would be easy in 2021 to say Rani is a better actor than SRK and Kajol because she has shown time and again she is. But this was when she was a newcomer, working with experienced stars. Oh, yeah. The movie was ridiculous, but Rani worked wonders with what she was given.

P.S. Kajol was her usual screechy self, and SRK hammed as he usually does in these type of movies. Less said about the plot the better. One of my friends had a FRIENDS title for it: The One Where Rahul Fell In Love With Anjali's Boobs.

Tina was the only sane one in the film.

Rani did well. I liked the om jai Jagdish singing scene and even in a white saree just floating around in the background, I couldn't look away from her.

And I really felt the mother-daughter bond all thanks to great acting by both Rani and the kid.

Rani had a small albeit impactful role. Was she the best? Hmm, no. I liked Shahrukh too. The way he gets teary eyed with his mom, his relationship with his daughter and of course his chemistry with both Anjali and Tina. It's not easy to pull it off. So, I'll say both Rani and Shahrukh did well.
