Ragging scene in Kabir Singh.

There was a ragging scene shown in Kabir Singh where in the girls hostel, all first year girls were asked to completely take off their clothes.

Previously whenever we saw these type of ragging scenes in movies or TV shows, it was only shown happening to boys. So it seemed like girls are spared in these situations and seniors go easy on them.

But here we saw that girls also get the same treatment.

So how close to reality was that scene in the movie? Are girls also stripped in prestigious Indian colleges as a form of ragging?

Have you ever seen or heard any real life incident like this?

I never passed out high school to go to college so I've no idea about this.

Nope, not heard even from friends or friends of friends. It's just a story you hear that some colleges have all this going on and those colleges in turn have heard about some other college.

Was asked to propose someone. They gave a rose also as a prop. Took the rose, walked up to this person and said whatever they told me to say. Everybody laughed and I went to class. And yeah they took away the rose for the next junior. They had only one rose. That was the extent of my ragging.

Reading my above reply, realised I may have been dismissive of ragging. Not my intention, if anybody had faced hurtful ragging, my sympathies.

forget ragging by peers i have heard in 90s in schools teachers would punish high school girls by making them remove their dress and stand on desk or kneel as punishment

in schools lot of horrible corpal puishment is given even now although officially they say no punishment

like caning, hitting in scale, running in ground, kneeling etc

regarding ragging of girls what i heard is if its only girls college ragging exceeds limits

but if its co head ragging is not so much on girls

more of boys targeted

but in mbbs colleges or iits ragging is a bit more than normal

now its reduced because case will be put

I went to one of the premium Indian institutions for college, and my extent of ragging had been they asked me to propose a senior (in all fun). So it was pretty light hearted and fun.

In early 00s it used to be horrific in engineering colleges. Like a neighbour mine came back running in an underwear wrapping a sack around him to save his life from hostel. He was beaten, made to cook and clean for the seniors and when he complained in college about them they were actually hitting him or something. I used to be pretty young so people skipped the gory details to me.

It does happen in hostels and I've heard many examples of girls meting out such treatment to their juniors.

I'm from Delhi University but I never attended hostel so I didn't encounter this personally, but I know it happens for sure.
