How did Talaash enter the 100 crore club despite it's genre?

Made on a budget of Rs.40 crore, and released across 2,500 screens, Talaash entered the Rs 100 crore movie club.

I have seen the movie, and it hardly had commercial elements. Dark/niche elements, a storyline which meanders, and a subtext most won't grasp.

Also, the movie's climax was trashed by all because of the supernatural element👎🏼

Is it only bcoz of Aamir that the movie made 100 crores?

Aur budget ki baat matt karo. It's because Aamir asked 80% of profit the producers had to sell the movie at almost 70cr+ IIRC. And it couldn't even make 100cr. It was a flop film... niche upar karke no faayeda.

It was Aamir's first non parallel cinema release since 3 Idiots- 3 years earlier so I think it opened big on Aamir's star power but legs were poor. ok.
