Yes looks are obviously a factor but they actually don't matter THAT much when it comes to serious relationships...

Personality and status/finances will always trump looks for most people...

And that's actually whether it's men or women you're talking about btw...

Actually it's ESPECIALLY in the arranged marriage market that people are more interested in a girl's salary (or her father's salary/properties) much more than her looks...

Looks usually only become an issue in cases where the girl isn't rich, or she's perceived to be unusually bad looking by most...

Most Indian parents who do arranged marriages for their sons would prefer a plain looking girl who's well educated from a wealthy family, rather than a very beautiful girl who's not too educated and comes from a poor family!

Are you kidding me?

So would you marry an ugly looking guy with good personality and financial status?

Sorry but I can never do that. I can't be looking at an ugly face daily after getting up in the morning, that too for my whole life.

The first mode of attraction is always physical, you don't learn someone's personality in months, let alone on first few interactions.

What did you really reply that your post and my post both got deleted?😆

I didn't see and I'm curious.

Looks matter to a certain extent definitely. But not all that much, it's a myth if people feel people marry on the basis of looks alone.

I have seen so many pretty girls fall for average-looking men and vice-versa, when it comes to love marriages.

In arranged marriages, financial status trumps looks anytime, anywhere.

Looks comes third after financial status and personality in the hierarchy of importance for most people, unless you're exceptionally shallow.

In terms of not being shallow ranking personality first - yes, money - no. Being most interested in financial status instead of looks doesn't make one less shallow.

This reminds me of the Gentleman Prefers Blonde Marilyn Monroe dialogue

  • Lorelei Lee : Don't you know that a man being rich is like a girl being pretty? You wouldn't marry a girl just because she's pretty, but my goodness, doesn't it help?

  • Esmond Sr. : Have you got the nerve to tell me you don't want to marry my son for his money?

    Lorelei Lee : It's true.

Esmond Sr. : Then what do you want to marry him for?

Lorelei Lee : I want to marry him for YOUR money.

I would never marry a guy I found ugly (though I know for a fact some girls actually would) , but yes I'd go for someone who's average looking with a good personality, good morals and has a decent job over a really handsome underachiever with an average personality and average morals...

I would be shocked if anyone over the age of about 15 thought the second guy is better than the first

Materialistic, yes. Shallow, no.

Materialism is just as shallow as lookism. Money makes things easier to live with but then so does beauty. Materialism probably has more long term benefits because looks fade but it's not based on any real personal worth or human connection. Especially when about 92% of all wealth is inherited, so it's not even about being a hard worker in the overwhelming majority of cases.

again another post got deleted..why is this even happening

In current discussion, mostly people are average looking..whom are we actually gonna level as ugly ones? what is the criteria..? And beauty depends upon person-person. Everyone looks for goodlooking ones only, but in the eyes of other people, that person maybe ugly looking.
