Balraj Sahni spent 2 years in jail for his Left activism and criticism of the government. He also refused to apologise.


A.K. Hangal was jailed for his activism and for being a Communist.


Majrooh Sultanpuri, the film songwriter was jailed for penning a poem that criticised Nehru and the then-government's policies.


Manoj Kumar was yet another famous actor who openly defied the Emergency, and even won a court case after government tried to stall the release of his films.


Danny Denzongpa had raised his voice against the censorious and illegitimate ways of the Emergency.


Pran, the famous movie villain, was also a vocal critic of the Emergency and of Indira Gandhi's governance.


Celebrated filmmaker Hrishikesh Mukherjee also protested against the ruling powers during the Emergency, and even snuck in jokes about it in his films.

Those were the days when people stood up for what they believed in filmakers made films in what they believed n singers sang beauriful n meanigful songs now everything is done to get attention from relationships to holidays snything an everything is on sale in the name of social media

Indira Gandhi lost the election so she declared emergency which gave her absolute power to imprison anybody and she did...

Political enemies, opponents and journalists...

Some courageous people opposed that, risking imprisonment


Other than that don’t think BW was that courageous whether it was tackling sensitive issues or opposing Gov. policies or atrocities

I might be wrong but there wasn’t the threat of being sued by anybody for anything in those days, Indian law didn’t allow that I think

She is the most spineless person in bollywood.

She first tweets nonsense and abuses from Rangoli's twitter and then creates team Kangana.

She then abuses everyone on the planet as she has the support of ruling government.

She turns a tragic incident suicide into a self promotion event.

She refuses to corporate with police when questioned in Hrithik saga and SSR investigation.
