Nothing would happen, defamation case only go on for decades unless you are supreme court lawyer.

On one end, there is no real reason to stop the slandering because of lack of consequences. If anything, atleast these suits will make people think twice before dragging someone for the heck of it

No it does not.

Most companies and individuals are scared of this law as if the case goes into the court, your reputation goes down hill. In celebrities case everything is recorded electronically. Then there is a fine and clause. Most parties prefare settle this case outside the court.
