This makes me sad - only because I always liked Sushant from the beginning and rooted for him and I also lost interest in him/distanced myself a couple years ago..think it started after his break-up with Ankita...and then when I read rumors of his being difficult and the me too movement, I really wondered if and how he had changed so much? At that time, he reminded me of Farhan in LBC almost - someone who loses his way as he chased success in BW. Sigh. Was I just conditioned to move on from him?

I guess this is also what is making people mad - they feel like they were taken for a ride and conditioned to ignore him due to the systemic and continued rumors/sabotage/whatever you want to call it. I've enjoyed my for share of gossip so this makes me take a good and hard look at what I've enjoyed and how I've enabled this behavior for sure.

--

I have watched Kis Desh and a little bit of PR but my primary introduction to him was JDJ. His dances and pairing with Shampa was really something else, ironically he was robbed of a very well deserving win on that show.

Then came his BW movies Kai Po Che, SDR, PK..peaked with MS Dhoni. I remember there being so much ...why and how does a "nobody" from TV get the big films and work with biggies? People had to link it to some other means/contacts - this is how used to nepotism we are and believe that unless you're an insider you can't make it in this industry, that when there is an outsider getting that success, we can't understand it, swallow it.

The smear campaign was obvious since PK. Who can forget the PR machinery around PK time making fun of the fact that Anushka was paired opposite a "small TV actor like Sushant" and not paired opposite Aamir, which led to her lashing out about how "Sushant is a small chapter in her life." Granted the PR mess was perhaps meant to insult Anushka but was really more if not equally insulting to Sushant... This is how the industry treats those who are not insiders...dismissive and insulting...

He was so so so good as Dhoni. As someone who is a huge Dhoni fan, I was genuinely very impressed with how well he got his body language and enacted him. I'm not going to lie - I was disappointed with the way Neeraj made that movie, but I can't fault Sushant at any point. There is no doubt that MS Dhoni with an insider would have been hailed as the next best thing, and I bet you everyone in that roundtable would have seen it. He had to toot his own horn and got labeled as arrogant for that.

I do think he was disillusioned when DBB bombed (another movie in which he was amazing)...then it was kinda downhill from there. Kedarnath was quite good but the media story was really all about Sara from the beginning and I enjoyed Chichore but it totally flew under the radar. I haven't seen Sonchiriya yet.

Can I also say, I just don't know what all this astrophysics and stars stuff is? I mean I just don't remember him as this "off" guy with these interests, not that I am a great big fan who followed him from the very beginning but still? Yes, he was quite intelligent, but I'm just taken aback with what all this love for astrophysics and universe is that every single person is parroting. Is that something he turned to in the last few years or he was always interested and didn't talk about it that much back then? I just don't get it.

I'd like to remember him as a goofy, fun, successful guy with a big ambition and dreams, who made it further in an industry than many do even with everything against him. I'm genuinely upset that he was made to feel like it was not enough.

You said it all. It just breaks my heart so much that nobody really cared when he was alive. How brutally he was targeted and for what?! He has done absolutely NOTHING to anyone. Just did his job. Talked about quantum physics and was ridiculed relentlessly for not conforming to the fakeness. Shamed for the way he spoke. Shamed for his instagram posts. Shamed for his relationships. Shamed for his looks. Shamed for acting in TV. Shamed for being different. Oh, my heart hurts so badly for him. I can't even imagine the turmoil he must've been through. Suicide ultimately has a reason. Depression is a mental illness which has a cause. I can't ever get myself to spend my money on these Bollywoodiya's and fill the pockets of people who dragged him down in that manner. Such cowardice. Such bitchiness. DISGUSTING.

I pray Sushant's demise doesn't go in vain. I know the outlash is extreme right now but it is so necessary to change the system. Call out bullying.

Sushant gets no award. MSD movie’s success is attributed to Dhoni. Chalo maan liya.. the money it made was coz of dhoni but what about performance? Chhichhore was best movie of 2019. Yet I didn’t see some real appreciation for that. It made lot of money too. Had it been any other actor, he would have been hailed as second coming of God by trade.

So let’s not compare RK and Sush in this regard.

I am sorry, I think I couldn't articulate my thoughts properly.

I was not trying to "COMPARE " RK and Sushant here, I was in fact trying to show the difference.

I believe there are two types of men.

1. Who take pride in being a player or casanova or macho

2. Those who are take pride in being the faithful and well behaved kind.

While RK belongs to 1st category, Sushant is the 2and one.

So, someone here commented that there were such Casanova types blinds about Sushant, are there any about RK?

To answer that person, I wrote that even when there are rumors, RK doesn't get affected by them like Sushant would.

And that is exactly why I mentioned that RK has thick skin like rhinoceroses.

My sincere apologies but I didn't try to demean Sushant anywhere, but yes. I did demean RK and I am not sorry about that, at all.

I actually kind of don't agree with that piece that the director wrote. I discuss economics, social justice, politics, among other things. Some people try to put me down for it. Others praise my knowledge and insights. I have noticed that those who put me down normally have some insecurities themselves? Let's be honest here? How many well educated starkids are there? Arjun Kapoor flunked the 12th grade? Ranbir barely passed the tenth? What specifically differentiated Sushant from most of them is either he had a brain or he was knowledgable about topics other than films. Period! Again self-worth and confidence is engrained in me? And if I was him in the industry I would never thought it made me different in an inferior way. (I secretly might have even thought it made me superior) Again in any industry I have had interaction with being knowledgable is praised and applauded. The only ones that look down on it are the insecure ones. Sushant came from humble beginnings and maybe being around rich kids he felt out of place and inferior but who knows? It wasn't something he should ever been shamed for nor should he have been ashamed for it.

The motivational quotes again someone like him who came from humble beginnings and made it big had the ability to aspire. Not something the starkids can say about themselves if they are doing a townhall with the Indian youth. " Hello Children! I got success handed to me on a platter but you should work hard." I might have posted a video about Kjo bitching about it. I said what I felt. There was insecurity in his "there are some things I just don't understand." (And he never will.)

Looks if him and Arjun Kapoor were standing side by side? Which one looked like the Bollywood hero? I already said it he was more handsome then most. Even Ranbir has feminine frame. He has a narrow waistline and narrow shoulders. Compared to Sushant's broader shoulders and broader masculine waist.

The one thing he did lack at the time was articulation skills. (Like many have said it could have just been a lack of confidence once he entered film industry.) But he could have hired a coach. Kangana did.

They needed reasons to bring him down. They came up with bogus.

Thank you for putting down your thoughts. It’s been days and I have still not been able get this beautiful man out of my mind. I was never a fan but liked him in whatever shows and films of his I saw .Its true that blinds and the smear campaign against him were successful enough to paint him a certain way in our minds .I loved him in his first show , Kai Po Che and Dhoni but after that lost interest mostly because of all the negative articles on him .He was looked down by the BW Elite club and even this forum because he started from TV. The way he was ridiculed for his looks...I don’t know what to say . He was a very handsome man with a very beautiful and innocent smile. Looked so much better than most current gen BW actors .
It’s so sad that I didn’t follow him and appreciate his work enough while he was alive 💔 I hope his death doesn’t go in vain. I hope it brings about some change in the way Bollywood and media functions.

The likes of Arjun Kapoor, Varun Dhawan, and even Ranbir cannot hold a candle near Sushant's intellect. The glamour world is one of many insecuties. All smoke and mirrors. In an industry where bars are set so low that mediocrity is applauded and awarded, people like Sushant stick out like a sore thumb to them. And you are correct. Sushant should've felt superior with the level of intellect he inherited. But, when you are constantly berated and demeaned for every aspect of you're uniqueness through blinds where even the audience starts to believe in the false narrative, that is heartbreaking. Many have only acknowledged or taken notice of his level of intellect and intelligence after his demise. Before that, he was visciously targetted and the unfortunate matter of fact is that people were falling for it. Just goes to show how conniving and rather low-minded these so called "insiders" can be. What was the motive behind targeting someone like him who didn't even bother fighting back? I'm absolutely distraught that Sushant's specialness was what they've used against him. As Kriti said, his mind was is strength and weakness. It pains me so much that he was so hurt and felt so isolated that he didn't even leave a note behind. Not even a goodbye for his family. He left with the feeling that nobody cared so he left without a word. That hurts me to know that he was hurting to that extent. It angers me so much to see how people are claiming to be his friend and sharing memories when he was hurt to the extent of not saying a single word.

The narrative of him being 'difficult to work with' continued and just continued. They say lies repeated again and again becomes the truth...it did become that for him.

I have a fear that we may never know the truth. I guess YashRaj and Dharma , SK films. They all have power and contacts.

Even if it's proved, what are the chances it will come out or this won't be subdued??

His thoughts would come across as scattered at times and sometimes it felt as if he might be trying extra hard while talking in English? Looking back now, wow..it just seems all different and personally, it makes me sad. Now I see someone who perhaps struggled with anxiety..because often times when you're anxious, you end up overcompensating your sentences because in your mind, you feel you might not be making sense to others around you. I sometimes find myself doing that, and suddenly am seeing that in Sushant while watching some of his interviews.

You’re absolutely right I thought maybe it was a speech issue or he wasnt the greatest at enunciating because I could hardly understand his dialogues in any movie.

I get it! If there are enough people to gang up on you and state that you are inferior (even though logically you are superior) you start believe it! Take a look at this interaction. I mean what does Karan have on Sushant besides being born in privilege that he feels awkward being close to him ? Seriously?
