If audience just wants good content then why was Simmba successful?

Last year's circlejerk was about how the indian audience just wants great content, instead of dumb masala movies. People said this after Race 3, Thugs and Zero flopped.

Then Simmba comes and despite being lackluster as well suddenly became a huge success. I'm glad stuff like Thugs & co, failed but I don't see how Simmba was better, maybe even worse tbh because Rohit Shetty tacked a serious topic that he couldn't handle well at all.

Well I think it's not good content as in something out of the box but entertaining. It should be reasonably well made and enjoyable. Complete nonsense or boring would be rejected.

Audience wants entertaining movies, Simba was entertaining, Race3 was not at all entertaining, rather a torture.

Haven't seen TOH/zero, so dunno about them.

This.

Audiences don't want good content films; they want entertaining films.

A Ship of Theseus won't work because it might have good content, but it's boring. In the end, audience log only care about getting a wholesome experience.

Race 3 would have worked if it were any good. Same for Thugs and Zero.

Even though I didn't like Simba, it was entertaining enough for mass audiences. And, that's all that matters.

I thought it would flop until Deepika said it looked like a blockbuster so I changed my mind but anyway still don’t know what so particular about that annoying movie.

I really disliked the movie and how it handled rape tbh. 5th is pure exaggeration though. And this is more about the circlejerk regarding the audience only liking good content when there is evidence to the contrary (Baaghi 2 is another success from last year that was shit too).

2018 year started with Padmavat, a mediocre movie being a blockbuster, so audience taste change was an overreaction.

The fact Zero opened at nearly 20 crores, Race 3 at 27 crores and TOH at 50 crores show that Khans still have starpower, it is their movies which suck.

Audience like good content only is wrong statement.

Audience also likes good content is better.

We would always have Mediocre work like padmavat etc be successful with all the glitz and glamor added even race 3 , 0, toh brought initial good numbers though the content was bad and not entertaing to sit through.

Simmba was boring to me , but I get why lot of masses lapped it up , hit numbers , Ranveer overacting galore , second half melodrama, hit songs ,revenge story , one liner dialogues Ajay returns , no competition etc.
