DP's absence made Alia numero uno by default

I feel just because Deepika took a break, Alia reached the top position. There's literally no competition for her, 'coz most of the other top actresses can't act(Katrina) or are mediocre (Anushka). Deepika was the only one who can give a solid takkar to Alia in terms of star power, but she didn't have a release for 2 years and this is what gave Alia the much-needed career boost. I doubt she would have reached the No. 1 position if DP was still active as she was between 2012-2015.

Anyway, I feel it's time for DP to reclaim the throne. Maybe Chapaak will be the turning point, and she will be back in a big way.

It's true, Alia has no competition from the other young actresses and Deepika took a break after 2015 which lead to her easily becoming Nr.1 (especially since she is at least a solid actress + has lots of support from KJo).

If Deepika would do more movies again she could still reclaim that spot. Chapak alone isn't enough and I doubt she has a big role in '83.

Chapaak is her first female-oriented movie and has tremendous scope for performance, as it deals with an acid attack victim's story. On top of that, Meghna Gulzar is the director and she is known for handling sensitive topics very well. I think Chapaak will be enough for DP to be "back", so long as she follows it up with a commercial blockbuster like YJHD or something like CE.

True and she will likely get a lot of critical acclaim and some awards as well if she delivers a great performance.

But she definitely needs a commerical blockbuster as well and I doubt 83 will be that for her since it will be more about the team winning the World Cup. In YJHD and CE she was at least as important as the male leads

DP's absence nahi, her own work(regardless of how she got it- before I am bombarded with nepotism comments) has made her whatever she is today... How can someone's absence make someone else successful?

No Alia has had it easy. Absence of the most popular female star definitely has an effect since all the focus goes to her, then Kjo's support + lack of any real competition from her generation. Claiming it's all because of Alia's work is ridiculous (even if she is a solid actress)

I dont think its by default. Alia was always going to get good opportunities, and do good work. It is a given that she had the most probability to be successful from the new lot given the opportunities she's given. They are better, let's admit it.

I do notice that Alia's name is almost always paired with deepika as the number 1 actress. I am yet to hear her being categorized as the official number 1. I dont think people are ready for deepika and a lot of other established actresses to give up their positions and let the new lot take over completely.

Popularity and desirability wise Deepika is still miles ahead of Alia...I don't know what your ranking system is based on, but Alia and Deepika cater to entirely different set of audience IMHO and absence or presence of one doesn't/shouldn't effect the other!
