I remember when my parents were watching "Pakeezah" (they are huge old movies buff) and wanted me to watch it too .. but I got bored af few mins in the movie! .. 😳 ... If KJo is aiming for that kind of movie, I don't know if Gen Z audience is ready for it! .. Tho reserving judgement till "trailer release"!

Whatever I read abt the story here, it seems to be abt Pre partition era in Pakistani Punjab, with a mishmash of characters, nautch girls Madz and Aloo, blacksmith Varun, shayar Sona and ARK also I think is a shayar and then freedom struggle, Partition all historical references, reminds me of Buniyaad TV show and other 80s movies...

I think I would be bored now if I tried to watch Pakeezah but we liked it when we watched it back then...the ethos was different, people could enjoy those slow movies with grand Urdu dialogues, Nazaakat, shayari, Mujras, the Nawabi culture, grace and dignity in the face of a life of Ignominy ...Now people would be bored to watch those things.
Plus I dont think current youngsters are really interested in Partition stories, or Pre Independance era story.

you right...i even read the leaked story and it kinda sucks. seems boring. all these mujras, khotes...doesn't excite anymore. feels like done and dusted. even slb movies...the dances, garbas, ghoomars...pls no more slb.
i don't even know why madhuri is doing this movie. i am disappointed from total dhamaal...i hope at least she has a solid role to play in this one. but who knows maybe kalank will work

lets see.

Of course Alia is the first look KJO releases. This is a mix of Aish in Jodha Akbaf and DP in Padmavat. No comparison.

Roop? I'm sorry but I can't imagine a plot where Varun and AK are fighting over a love interest who isn't staggeringly beautiful. Sona has a more regal look to her.

The bar is too high for period dramas after Jodha Akbar and SLB movies. let's see how the trailer is!

Unfortunately Madhuri always gets these dancing roles, ever since she returned to movies, shes been doing mostly mujras or dancing roles. She doesnt have a lot of choices, if only directors, PHs were not so misogynistic they would feature Anil Madhuri in lead roles instead of bit roles in Total Dhamal, Im sure there are still 80s people alive who would love to relive the anil madhuri pairing or maybe aamir madhuri etc
I think KJo also realized Kalank seems outdated in terms of modern sensibilities hence hes not promoting it heavily yet but more busy promoting Brahmastra which he hopes will be another Bahubali
SLB has exhausted/overused the period costume dramas, I dont think adding partition story will help either. Partition was a very painful era for refugees of Punjab and Bengal, but the partition era people have mostly passed away and new generation doesnt seem to care for their stories unfortunately.

Every poster is reminding me of SLB's posters.
Varun's poster reminded me of Shahid's poster from Padmavaat,
ARK's poster reminded me of SRK's look in Devdaas,
and then comes this Alia poster that reminded me of Aish's look from Jodha Akbar.
