From what we hear, Alia wasn't even first approached as it was supposed to be Varun, Arjun and one of the newcomer girls along but then Arjun left and ARK was signed and along with Sridevi and Sanjay Dutt. Sonakshi was final one on board then they chose Alia too.
Heck even Alia admitted that she pressured Abhi Varman to take her in the film after hearing all about it.
From all leaked news and what we know about it. The biggest roles were certainly Varun's which was originally written for SRK, ARK writer for Ajay Devgn and Sridevi, later replaced by Madhuri written for Hema Malini originally. But knowing Kjo|Alia and all Abhi must've changed it to accommodate father daughter. Either way, Varun has shot the film for longest and is his biggest film and biggest role till date. Knowing Alia also was shooting for those days where Varun was required to shoot actions scenes imagining she must be shown in background cheering for Varun in the film.
I am rooting for whole cast but especially Sonakshi's role as a poet (and supposedly an immigrant). Madhuri who is playing a courtesan. And finally Varun as the most interesting character of the film. Varun alone is part of 5 songs confirmed. Which includes ones with Kiara Advani, Kriti Sanon too. He has shot for the film for over 100 days. As he was first one to start shooting and shot alone (without other 5 main leads) for first 20 days
