It's a shame Simmba is so successful and well received

2018 was a great year for Bollywood for the most part. Content driven movies (like Andhadhum) were successful and well received while lazy masala garbage like the 3 Khan movies failed.

But then somehow Simmba, a typical dumb Rohit shetty movie is somehow successful (a Blockbuster) and even got good reviews...why? Is it just because of the Ranveer hype because while he is a good actor, no one should be rewarded for a lackluster movie. This type of blind fanboyism reminds me of the 3 Khan fanbases.

I would even say it's worse than Dilwale just because of the way it handles rape (horrible)

It's because of Christmas. Everyone usually watches movies around this time, even those who watch only 2-3 movies a year watch one around Christmas.

This Xmas there were no good options. Zero was bad. No English or regional films were amazing either. So a Rohit Shetty film which promises at least some sort of entertainment was people's last bet. But I don't think anyone's raving about it.

This movie wasn't as bad as some of his other masala movies. Infact second half was very strong content wise. This was movie with message and people connected with it. Ofcourse holiday season and free run helped.

Entertainment is what that drives BoxOffice. Content or no content if there is entertainment people will spend money coz at the end of the day people watch movies to forget stress of day to day life and spend some quality time with family n friends.

If you get told over and over again that Rohit movies are entertainment (whatever the story is), if you see a lot of praising stars given to the movie, if you have an intriguing actor also praised over the moon, why not entertain yourself (with friends/family) and going to the theatre?

If you get told over and over again that SRK has lost his touch to the audience, if you see given to his movie a lot of negative critic, if you have an actor where you a s s u m e to know how he would play the role, would you go and venture into watching this movie?

Make your choice, Journey...and don't talk about "blind fanboyism" which has nothing to do with what was going on this Christmas time.

I don't know why there should be an issue with a Masala movie doing well, that too if it is well made.. Keeping the over the top action scenes aside it was quite a fun movie.. and Ranveer was terrific in it.
Sure we can all debate about how the serious issue was not addressed properly in the second half, but that's Rohit's perspective.. I watched his interview with Anupama and can somewhat understand what makes him think so, that encounter killings are okay..
Plus the main thing is he makes movies for family audiences that no one can deny.. it has no vulgar content or anything which u might feel uncomfortable watching with ur parents.. I went with my family and everybody enjoyed Simmba.
