If srk didn't connect with the audience he wouldn't be where he is today,all those hand gestures or what you refer to as wannabe cool attitude connected him big time with the audience and helped him be known as the romance king.

The remake was about the father going to war and leaving his young son behind as the man of the family. The original features the Korean war and shows how after the Korea was split they think the father is on the other side. India was also split so plot wise the adaptation makes sense. In the Korean version he never meets his father again. I wonder if they put a Bollywood twist though it's more poignant to keep the ending without meeting the father.
