Is writer Varun Grover a wrongful victim?
In the ongoing #MeToo movement which has gained momentum on Twitter, one more name popped up and it was that of Sacred Games writer Varun Grover. The survivor shared her account anonymously and alleged that Grover sexually harassed her in 2001 in the name of giving her stage directions for a play. Grover denied all the allegations and shared a detailed statement on Twitter and refuted her claims point wise.Well, it has been more than 3 days and the anonymous complainant hasn't reverted to Varun's clarification nor has bothered to answer his pointed questions.

This is shocking. It seems that @weeny disagreed with my point of view without giving context and wrote some tweets against me using phrases like "sucks dick and "shittakes. I ignored her because this is not my idea of discourse.

But it seems that @weeny was compiling a database of those accused in India's #MeToo movement and my name was added to this list of sexual predators! I don't know if she did this intentionally, or it was a mistake made by reactionary journalists. But, either way, it was NOT ok.

Blatant lies and defamation are ABSOLUTELY not acceptable. They amount to harassment. The very thing we're fighting against! I was shaken!

It took me eight years to speak up about being physically abused and, as a survivor myself, I've always championed for women to speak up and be heard. Anyone who knows me, or knows of me, can see how hard I am fighting in whatever little way I can to empower women.

It's then appalling to be added to a list of perpetrators because someone disagrees with me! #MeToo is about lifting other women, not debasing them for your own personal vendetta. And just because my feminism is not your feminism, does not mean it's not feminism.

I'd request people to practice responsible journalism and responsible feminism so that the #MeTooIndia movement is not derailed or diminished with lies and agenda. And if this is your attempt to undermine feminism or me then it will not succeed. We all deserve better than this.
