After Rani, she was the best performer in Saawariya.
Only Sonam and Aditi Rao Hydari from the current crop are believable as Bhansali heroines. (Well sonakshi probably could as well but I doubt Bhansali would cast her)

Pity Sonam squandered her own momentum post Neerja, she's probably the last classic beauty we have left of the actresses.

Deepika is a million miles ahead of her now, but I have always felt that Sonam was better than Deepika in their 2007 Hindi film debuts. Deepika didn't even dub her own lines, her role was mostly waving and catwalking and posing. Farah Khan has gone on record stating she only cast Deepika on her looks.

I actually thought her dialogue delivery was the weakest. But she looked beautiful, she always does In Indian traditional. DP's DD was just a shade better but maybe the role or her beauty, but DP's debut was definitely stronger.

I was seriously rooting for sonam, but nah...like I said, she looked heavenly in the movie, the best ever, but performance, kya performance? 😆
I remember I sneaked in for this movie. both movies were playing side by side halls, as soon as I finished with OSO, I found myself in sawariyaa. there were hardly anyone in theater for this movie, and like no body cared. by poor biru

on the other end, Deepika simply nailed it in her first outing. she fit in perfectly as shanti, a commercial masala potboiler, and there were hardly any mistakes from her.

sonam was top in Neerja, she nailed it!...and I liked her in khoobsurat and ranjhana. oh and credit for my liking her in khoobsurat goes to Fawad.

Sonam has a whiny, affected, quality to her voice which seriously brings down her performances. She needs a reality check on that. Somone who cares about her should tell her what a turn-off that is. Otherwise she has a very expressive face and eyes, and of course she is lovely.

^^Oh GOD SO this!! I can never take her seriously because even the rare few times she acts decently well her voice completely takes away from the scene & her performance. She has one of the most unconvincing voices in BW precisely because of what you mentioned!! I've a voice fetish & Sonam's voice is super-irritating. Sooo whiney.
