And seriously its a sad state in Hollywood when they cannot find any brown actress other than someone featured in a flop 2016 movie.

This woman thrives on self-promotion!

Hollywood has been trying hard to make inroads into countries like India. That's why adding desi celebs to these almost monthly lists with different names, featuring Indians in the Memorial section of the Oscars, celebs visiting India and namedropping Indian actors, etc.

They desperately want to get into the market and since Indians love even the smallest HW recognition, it works out well.

Yeah and it also fits their "diversity" fad that they have embarked on for the past few years. Speaking of which, why wasn't Priyanka invited to the Oscars? They thought having Kumail at the Oscars checked out the "brown" box? I mean i was exhausted by the all the b-grad black celebs there and even on the red carpet they interviewed black celebs in droves. Diversity indeed. 🤢

And as far as breaking in is concerned, i dont think Hollywood can make anymore inroads. South asia has its own culture and they live on Bollywood, they dont need Hollywood movies and especially when Bollywood movies have adapted the western style and format.

Priyanka, Dev, Riz were at the Oscars last year, none of them went this year. They don't have to go every year.

They will still try though. If not the actual movies, they would still want higher viewership of things like the Oscars telecast or to get more hits on webpages.

Look at what's happening in America. Even the Oscars have become something for Twitter or to look at dresses on Facebook. Nobody is watching it in the real world. This year's telecast had the lowest ratings ever and and they go down every single year. Average people don't even watch the kind of movies the Oscars nominate so they have no real interest.

HW is looking at the rest of the world a lot more because domestically the market can't get any bigger now.

Both Sri and Shashi deserved the honour on their own merit. The Academy certainly doesn't need any investment blueprint to honour world-class actors from any country.

That's the LA based one, there was a NY one the same year http://variety.com/gallery/power-of-women-new-york-impact-list-2016/

Let's face it: It's not always easy to be a woman in this world, let alone a showbiz leader that happens to be one.

There are the usual leadership obstacles to overcome, plus downright sexism and resistance in certain pockets of the planet. Yet, these women persist.

In honor of Intl. Women's Day on March 8, Variety presents its first Intl. Women's Impact Report. It is an outgrowth of our annual Women's Impact Report, with a singularly global focus.

The 50 women on this list are doing extraordinary things on the worldwide stage. They range from J.K. Rowling, a formerly strugg-ling single mum who built a multimedia empire around a boy named Harry Potter, to Mo Abudu, dubbed the Oprah of Africa, and the Scandinavian TV execs who fostered Nordic Noir. Plus performer activists including Britain's Emma Watson, Nollywood star Omotola Jalade Ekeinde and Asia Argento of Italy; international execs who have made incursions into U.S. markets, such as Studiocanal TV's Rola Bauer and Keshet Intl.'s Keren Shahar, and those in Asia and Europe who believe the key to survival in the increasingly global entertainment biz is strong local programming.
