RIP Sri Devi. I do not have words so I won't go into much detail except that we should pray for her and that she RIP. Regardless of what you believe in.

My request to you is to learn about cardiac arrest

1. It is not heart attack which is due to arterial blockage and lack of oxygen to heart muscle

2. Cardiac arrest is due to electric abnormality which can happen due to number of reasons and heart attack could be one reason. Irregular heart beat is another, electrolyte imbalance etc.

3. A person who goes into arrest has 5-10 minutes before he passes away

4. Call ambulance and look for defibrillator. Chances are former will be late and later will not be available. It costs a lot personal defib i.e.

5. Therefore GOOGLE AND SEE VIDEO OF WHAT YOU CAN DO TO HELP. ITS SIMPLE...It involves CPR AND Manual compression of CHEST. Its only 3-4 minutes of video.

http://www.abc.net.au/news/health/2018-02-13/cardiac-arrest-vs-heart-attack-and-first-aid/9379018

You can look for better videos ...i will continue to do also.

Lets use this opportunity to learn about this..we can watch stupid songs...movies...dances...but why not watch this few times so we are able to help people like her...

Sure when its time ..its time. Maybe someone will get cardiac arrest in room and you wont know till its late

BUT TAHT IS NO AN EXCUSE TO NOT LEARN

ONE SHOULD HAVE THE TOOLS AND KNOWLEDGE THAT WE DONT REGRET

Governments should make sure that they spread this so much that we all are experts on this.

Thanks

God bless Sridevi...she was.. anyway everyone is praising her. Maybe later. But pray for her and learn. Lets not waste this opportunity. I learned

Disclaimer: your help does not guarantee anything...maybe person will not survive. BUT IT IS WORTH TRYING

After hearing her news, I literally ran to supermarket and brought all heart healthy stuff.
From this second I have given up all butter , oil and processed foods.
Smoking Drinking I was anyway not doing.
Cardio excersices from today
and esp to my parents and brother , I will not let them eat unhealthy food.
Thats it.
This was like a wake up calll.

I cannot believe one of my fav people, actually my mother's fav actress passed away.
She was just 54.

Cardiac arrest basically means your heart stopped. It's never a cause of death. Something has to CAUSE your heart stop. A heart attack, a lung clot can cause instant cardiac arrest. Also if the fluid status in your body is too much or too little, usually due to bleeding out, or kidney disease.
Or if someone has lack of oxygen or is hypoxic. Or if someone has electrolyte abnormalities, once again, normally due to kidney disease. It's just SOOO unusual for someone young and healthy to have a cardiac arrest.
Which makes me wonder if she had Diabetes that was underlying and uncontrolled, causing heart disease, causing a heart attack. Lung clots are also highly likely if she just took a flight.

Me too. I always make sure my parents take pomegranate and arjuna regularly. These two things are best for heart health.

Btw, is that you cat in the DP. She's very cute and looks like my cat's twin.

I am shocked this is true. I came to this forum and thought this was rumor or fake news like other actors' death news which was spread in sick joke once, but then I go on Google and it's true. 😲 RIP Sri devi

Thanks for this post, Hippo.

Thanks for this Hippo.
Very essential that everyone does learn CPR. It's kinda hard though when situation arises to get into action because you will be in shock especially if it's a near and dear one. But it is always helpful to know what needs to be done and how to do it.
I've also been told that it is better to put more pressure than less pressure when you are pressing down on the chest. The heart is guarded by the ribs. It is common knowledge that ribs break during CPR but that's the only way we can get to the heart and have it pumping, if possible. The ribs will repair itself and you would have likely saved a person.

Apart from eating healthy one needs to have peace of mind. too much mental pressure can lead to heart attack/cardio arrest.

Another example is SAP CEO Ranjan DAs who died at young age of 42.

"Das emphasised hard work, integrity and a sense of curiosity. "Ranjan was a health freak. He ate right, jogged and worked out daily. He had no bad habits like drinking or smoking. He was very ambitious, and always believed that four hours of sleep were enough for him to be fit and fresh."

People say lack of sleep and work pressure were the major culprit.

Eating healthy is just one aspect. Another is mental pressure.

Routine health check once a year is a good thing to start from. Checking electrolytes gives a decent report.

Just 2-3 months back, I visited my mom's doctor, as she had lost her appetite. So he told me it can be an increase in creatinine and to get the blood checked. On doing so, we found out that not only creatinine but her potassium levels were also high. Potassium is an essential mineral, but even its high dose can cause the heart to stop functioning. Same is with haemoglobin, it also shouldnt go very low, if it goes below 8 that can stop heart function too.

Sometimes high potassium can indicate the kidney disease. It's better to get the kidneys functional test done. Doctors might ask you to stop taking high potassium food like milk, banana, oranges etc. Get her sugar A1C test done.
Best wishes

we got her admitted to the hospital, and the doctors got her creatinine levels down. Thankfully she responded well to the medicine hence dialysis wasnt needed. But We had to give her a powder mixed with water to remove the potassium from her blood. Upon seeing the blood report, the doctor immediately called me (mom was at home that time) to give one sachet on that powder, its called k-bind. Later we got her admitted and he started treatment for potassium reduction, as that was the SOS thing.

Now she is fine and we get a blood check done once a month.
