Swara Bhasker wrote a thought-provoking open letter to Sanjay Leela Bhansali after watching his magnum opus, Padmaavat. Swara mentioned, "That's what I felt like at the end of your magnum opus. I felt like a vagina. I felt reduced to a vagina-only, in the letter. The letter created a huge controversy and Swara was subjected to hate and trolling.
Sonam Kapoor is close to Swara and the two actors are collaborating for Veere Di Wedding. Sonam talked about the letter and said that Swara has the right to voice her opinions, as does everyone.
Sonam said to an online portal, "Since I haven't seen Padmaavat, I cannot comment on the specifics but I support Swara and her right to say what she feels. She's a very courageous woman and in our industry, it takes courage to say the kind of things she has said. I am sure Shahid, Deepika and Sanjay Sir, who gave me my launch, went into the project thinking they are making art and they've their own perspective but so does Swara.
Swara faced severe backlash after penning the letter, however at every media interaction she maintained that she respectfully and without any malice wrote her opinion on a piece of art and should not be judged so harshly.
She said, "Everyone has the right to critique and express their opinion. Like me, others also have the right to express their thoughts. I made a point, I said what I felt.I think I kept my point across in a very polite and respectful manner. I didn't have any bad intention or malice in my heart," at a media interaction.
