Is Haider Shahid Kapoor's Best Performance till Date?

Haider (2014) was definitely a great movie with an amazing star cast like Tabu, Shahid Kapoor, Shraddha Kapoor and Kay Kay Menon. Audiences and fans loved his performance in this movie, and he did shed his boy next door image to get into the role! He was completely in a different avatar and all thanks to Vishal Bhardwaj for making this happen. This beautiful movie was an adaptation of Shakespeare's Hamlet that focuses on the relationship between a mother and son. In fact, Shahid Kapoor's mother Neelima Azeem too feels that Haider is his career's best performance.

I would personally rate Kaminey & Udta Punjab higher but Haider seems to be the popular opinion.

I liked him best in Kaminey. But he was good in Haider too.

I haven't seen Udta Punjab, so I'd say Haider... his acting seemed so dope in UP songs though.

Anywho. I would rate Kanimey first, then JWM. And then Haider.

Haidar is his best film.

Performances in Kaminey and UP were equally impressive. It's a tossup.

Yes, in my view, Haidar is his best work till date closely followed by kaminey and rangoon.

Playing a famous character in indian adaptation of hamlet was a demanding one and he showed his layered acting prowess. From being helpless to mournful to obsessed with revenge he effectively demonstrated the character's transformation through his journey. The character not only involved different shades, but mood shifts too. He handled the complexity well particularly when it plunged into madness later.

That said, Tabu is the heart and soul of the movie and her role was heartbreaking as well as the most complex in the film. I personally found Shahid's act a little 'in your face' in few places in UP.
