Padmavati' Row: Has the Jauhar' Scene Put the CBFC in a Fix?

While the Central Board of Film Certification (CBFC) takes its time over the censor certification of Sanjay Leela Bhansali's trouble-ridden Padmavati, news from reliable sources at the CBFC is that, the main concern for the Board is not the controversies and the objections raised by fringe protesters, but the ritualistic practice of jauhar whereby women are shown to immolate themselves to preserve their decorum and virtue.

Says a source from the CBFC,

"We are not really concerned about the protests regarding the dream sequence featuring Deepika's and Ranveer's characters. We are pretty sure it is not there. Nor are we thinking about the Ghoomar dance which some of the saner elements of protest have objected to. No, our main area of worry is the climactic jauhar sequence. We feel it will cause a lot of problems.

In the climax, Rani Padmini (Deepika Padukone) and scores of her followers are shown to jump into a raging pyre to escape the invasion by Alluddin Khilji (Ranveer Singh).

"We feel women's organizations would take strong objection to the self-immolation. They might see this as another form of Sati, a practice that is constitutionally banned in the country. Jauhar is a very different practice from Sati. The latter was a cruel and often enforced way for women to end their lives after their husbands' death. The former is a voluntary practice implemented as a means of protest when women refused to suffer injustice.

CBFC does not think about women's group and the issues raised while certifying films objectifying woman?

Now this is a concern

They are just making up stupid excuses to delay certification.

Setting up panel of historians to verify fiction.. just cause fiction is based on history..

Jauhar and Sati DID HAPPEN in the past...there is nothing wrong with showing FACTS from history without twisting them...also a wrong tradition like SATI should never be glorified...
Jauhar and Sati were poles apart...Jauhar was done by the women folk to save themselves from becoming sex slaves...that was also death in a different way...it was like getting raped and dying every single day...when I think about it...Jauhar was the only way for women...we are talking about the time when might was right...

I don't even know why SATI is brought up in this context...Sati and Jauhar are as different as chalk and cheese...SATI was absolutely wrong...while Jauhar is debatable.

also, i would like to add, is that many people are comparing Jauhar with suicide but jauhar CANNOT be equated with suicide because even if a person wants to commit suicide, there are so many painless ways to do so. ...why would a person choose one of the most painful ways to commit suicide?

unless they were trying to send some message!

and that message probably was- u want my body...but I will not let u even touch it, whether alive or dead.

Jauhar is not equivalent to sati. Period.

Sati is a regressive medieval practice which was forced on women by patriarchy and reinforcing that women's identify and destiny depend on their husband's existence.

Jauhar is voluntary self immolation committed by women and children when their state is faced with an imminent war against a powerful aggressor.

Yet another delaying tactics by CBFC. Will prasoon joshi come out in the open and talk about the excessive delay, the 'special treatment' and the 'various' pressures behind it? Why do they appoint panel of historians especially now while all the historicals have been cleared with ample inaccuracies so far? Also I'd love to hear about the 68 days policy that was incorporated suddenly and revoked again 😉.

The rajputs, royals, senas strongly believe that jauhar was an act of great pride, valour and patriotism. So now its time for them to take on the women groups if at all they raise any objection 😆. On a serious note, jauhar is a 'fact' based on history and how they can be expected to twist facts. So I don't think it's a big deal.

All these tactic are just to delay the release... Wonder what sources are behind it...
Yesterday, i read an headline in a newspaper, stating that TZH is the biggest movie of 2017, and wondered, is this the reason why PD was forced to delay to 2018 ??

BJP wins Gujarat and now the CBFC agrees that there was no fabricated dream sequence..and no more rubbish remarks from random politicians on how "movies should not hurt people's sentiments"😆
TZH brings an Indo-Pak couple together solving word's problems..and that will not hurt the nationalist sentiments after all..but a non-existent dream sequence will😆

+++++++++++++
it just proves that nobody was doodh ka dhula in this whole thing..PH and politicians both joined hands to milk out as much from their controversy...Padmavati team is looking at February 18 for release..but whenever it will..the theatres are definitely gona run at packed houses.
